Job summary
We
have an opportunity for a Junior Clinical Fellow (JCF) in Respiratory Support
Unit (RSU) in St. James University Hospital, Leeds. Respiratory department in Leeds is a large
department covering 4 wards & have 16 consultants covering all aspects of
respiratory medicine & tertiary referral centre for many subspecialties
including Sleep & Complex Ventilation service. The person will take part
in daily ward rounds, MDTs, complex discharge planning for long term
tracheotomised patients and will work closely with the home ventilation &
sleep team. They will be supervised by consultants on RSU. It will also give
them opportunity to take part in research in the unit & QIPs.
The
applicant should have experience of working as FY2 or above. Prior experience
of working in respiratory medicine is preferable but not mandatory.

Main duties of the job
This
post is specifically directed at anybody who is considering pursuing acute
medicine or respiratory medicine as a career option or preparing for membership
exams. The JCF will be primarily posted on our state of the art 16 bedded RSU.
This unit is a high dependency ward for respiratory patients needing
interventions like non-invasive ventilation, high flow oxygen, weaning from
tracheostomy ventilation, setting up home ventilation, etc. This provides an
excellent opportunity to gain experience of managing patients presenting with
acute respiratory failure, e.g. COPD, obesity hypoventilation, neuromuscular conditions,
pneumonia, PEs, to mention a few.
There
will be opportunity to attend respiratory clinics including PE & sleep
clinics.
They will also be involved in the junior doctor
training programme; they will lead & organize the weekly teaching
programme.

meetings. They will lead & organize the weekly teaching programme.
An
expanding research and clinical trials programme is in place, in which the

time for research and audit in the timetable.

on the candidates level of experience and needs, training opportunities can
be tailored.
The
