Senior
Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Cardiology (Echocardiography)
We
are inviting applicants to join our busy but welcoming Congenital Cardiology
team as a Senior Clinical Fellow for a period of 12 months based at Leeds
General Infirmary in West Yorkshire.
We
are looking for candidates who wish to develop their congenital cardiology
clinical skills in the subspecialty of advanced echocardiography. The
successful applicant will join the paediatric cardiology registrar rota and
receive training in advanced echocardiography techniques, including 3D,
transoesophageal echocardiography and exposure to stress echocardiography. This
role is within an approved training programme and is suitable for ST7 or ST8
trainees.
This
post does not carry a National Training Number (NTN) in Paediatric Cardiology,
but is only open to applicants currently holding a NTN.
Main duties of the job
Given
the focus of this post towards echocardiography, as per the current curriculum
we would expect that 50% of the clinical time will be focused towards this area
of practice, including extensive involvement in the intra-operative and
intra-procedural imaging services.
There
will also be the opportunity for the applicant to maintain their General
Paediatric Cardiology skills (as per the curriculum), with other clinical
exposure in the post dedicated towards this, including outpatient clinics, performing
audits and teaching junior trainees.
Successful
candidates will participate in a rolling rota of week-long ward cover. During
the other weeks they will also have exposure to other activities within the
department. The role will be fully compliant with the current curriculum for
ST7-8 training and will be tailored to the trainee so that required
competencies can be achieved.

Congenital Cardiology Department is based within a large Teaching Hospital
catering for a population of over 5 million people.
The
paediatric cardiology junior staff currently comprise of 4 ST1-3 level
trainees,3
clinical paediatric cardiology registrars (ST4+), 3 Paediatric registrars
(ST4+
in a 1 year SPIN post for those wishing to be paediatricians with an
expertise
in cardiology) and 1 fellow in general paediatric cardiology (non-training
post).
Senior Training Fellows have been appointed in the department in
previous
years for specific training at ST7-8 in fetal, interventional and electrophysiology
areas.

KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
The
post holder should have previous experience of general paediatrics and
neonates, as well as a minimum of 3 years of paediatric or adult congenital
cardiology.
Applicants
for the post should be in an NTN in Paediatric Cardiology at ST7-8, or be post
CCT at the time of commencement of the post.
If
the appointee is in an NTN in a Deanery other than Yorkshire, permission for
Out Of Programme (OOP) training will need to be sought from the employing
Deanery prior to taking up the position, to ensure that the experience can be
counted towards training time.
Evidence
of previous interest in and exposure to training in echocardiography is
considered mandatory for appointment.
