We are pleased to advertise the post, Clinical Fellow in Genomic Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our experienced team within the Clinical Genetics Department based at Chapel Allerton Hospital, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This post is suitable for doctors, with an interest in Clinical Genetics, especially those considering applying for a national training number in Clinical Genetics in the future
You will work and contribute to the running of a busy Clinical Genetics department. You will be actively involved in clinics, MDTs, acute ward referrals and teaching. You will work in a team with our training registrars and other clinical fellows. You will be supported and supervised by the consultant team. You will also work closely within our wider team: genetic counsellors, genomic associates, admin and lab colleagues. The post will give you valuable experience for your clinical genetics national recruitment application and interview
Main duties of the job
The clinical fellow, under supervision, will hold clinics, contribute to departmental and multidisciplinary team meetings and deliver teaching sessions. The role will also include supporting the consultants in their delivery of excellent clinical care.
The clinical fellow may be required to carry out some or all of the following roles:
1.Support consultant clinical activity
2.Hold outpatient (Leeds, Hull and Bradford), telephone and video clinics
3.Participate in the urgent ward referral rota
4.Dictate and sign-off clinic letters promptly
5.Attend all stipulated departmental meetings
6.Support multidisciplinary team meetings
7.Undertake audit or quality improvement projects
8.Teach medical students and other medical personnel as directed
9.Attend induction and comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave
10.Maintain continued professional development
You may have the opportunity to deliver national presentations and contributing to publications
About us
The Department of Clinical Genetics is based at Chapel Allerton Hospital with a satellite unit in Hull Royal Infirmary and is part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. Our vision is based on The Leeds Way Values. You will join a team of 8 consultants, 5 specialty trainees, 2 clinical fellows, 2 GPwSI and genetic counsellors to provide a specialist service to West, North and East Yorkshire. Clinics are held at several hospitals in the region. Specialist clinics and MDT meetings are held several sub-specialist clinical teams. We provide an urgent neonatal review service. We work closely with our genetic laboratory and colleagues in the Sheffield and Newcastle genetic services.
We are a friendly and supportive team. We have embraced the recent national changes to genetic testing (whole genome sequencing) modernising our pathways, adapting how we deliver patient centred care and increasing our support to mainstream colleagues.
