The salary for this role is subject to review and may change. We anticipate the salary will be confirmed prior to agreeing the start date for the successful applicant, at the very latest.

Working in a collaborative and friendly communications team, this new role will work closely with the Senior Membership Engagement Manager to deliver membership engagement activities within NIHR training and career development programmes.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a public sector organisation, supporting key membership activities including events.

You will be integral to building and strengthening a membership community of the next generation of research leaders.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Senior Member Engagement manager, you will deliver a programme of work to enhance NIHR Academy Member communications and engagement.

You will need good interpersonal and communication skills to support working with a broad range of colleagues across NIHR and programme teams.

You will be a line manager as required for colleagues within the team.

You will have day to day responsibility for delivering key events and activities to support the NIHR Academy engagement strategy.

Responsibility for the NIHR Academy Member e-marketing platform and oversight of communications with NIHR Academy members.

Strong evaluation skills, to measure/interpret engagement data considering reach and impact of engagement activities, to ensure development and continuous improvement of approaches.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder is expected to work flexibly across the organisation. The balance of duties undertaken by the post-holder will vary according to NIHR Academys annual cycle.

The post holder will be expected to:

  • Support the Senior Member Engagement Manager and work as part of the wider NIHR Academy Communications team to deliver NIHR Academy Executives external communications strategy and the internal communications plan to deliver appropriate areas of the NIHR Academy business plan
  • Take day to day responsibility for delivering activities to support NIHR Academy Executives communications strategy including enhancement of Academy Member communications and engagement
  • Line manage as required for the member engagement/communications team, supporting delivery of their objectives and their personal and professional development
  • Take day to day responsibility for the planning, organisation and delivery of key events, including the Academy Members Conference and Senior Investigator meetings.
  • Work with programme teams to develop and improve speaker and event opportunities, providing ad hoc support for events and workshops delivered by colleagues for NIHR Academy members.
  • Keep up to date with developments in communications and stakeholder engagement practices, including digital communications and social media and advise colleagues on their potential use by the organisation to enhance engagement plans
  • Ensure that communications and member data storage complies with GDPR and information governance guidelines and policies.
  • Liaise with colleagues across NIHR to provide content and copy for dissemination to members through NIHR and other external communication channels
  • Take day to day responsibility for the NIHR Academy Member e-marketing platform and liaise with colleagues to develop and improve communications for NIHR Academy members.
  • Evaluate and measure the reach, success and impact of the organisations member engagement activities, analysing results and providing recommendations on how to further improve engagement plans
  • Support market research/ focus groups/ survey materials and analyse and interpret complex results to support the continued development and improvement of communication/engagement strategies in conjunction with the Assistant Director Communications, Public Involvement and Leadership Development
  • Support the communication of complex research findings through the development, publications and dissemination of case studies, press releases and news articles, working in conjunction with the wider communications team
  • Support the preparation of reports and papers for strategic and policy meetings and publication
  • Liaise with other national centres, NIHR and DHSC staff and the academic community as necessary
  • Deputise for the Senior Engagement Manager at meetings as required
