Job summary
This
is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Inquest Services Manager to
join the Trusts Risk Management team. The post holder will provide expert
support, advice and representation at inquests within West Yorkshire and
occasionally beyond. Key aspects of the role will be to ensure the
effectiveness of internal inquest processes and procedures; facilitating
learning and managing the inquest team. You will work closely with a range of
clinical staff to drive improvements in safety and provide assurance to the
Coroner that the organisation has learned from patient deaths and made
improvements to systems and processes where required.
Developing
and maintaining credibility with clinical staff is critical to being
successful in the role as well as providing support and advice to all the
Clinical Service Units. Excellent interpersonal skills are an essential
requirement.
To
succeed you will need to have extensive knowledge of and relevant experience
in the application of coronial law and inquest procedures. You will have
analytical and organisational skills, the ability to develop and lead a high
performing team as well as computer literacy and high level report writing
skills. The successful post holder will be flexible and have a can do
attitude with a strong focus on delivery.

Main duties of the job
To
ensure an efficient and effective inquest service is provided within the
Trust. The post holder will be responsible for the management of the
Coroners inquest function; undertaking factual investigations; assisting
staff with the drafting of statements/reviewing statements; supporting staff
called to inquests; drafting legal documentation in response to issues raised
by Coroners; representing the Trust and staff in the Coroners court;
identifying cases where separate legal representation is required;
instructing barristers for highly contentious cases; liaising with deceased patients families;
ensuring that Reports to Prevent Future Deaths are responded to within the
time frame and address all issues identified by the Coroner. The post holder
will also be responsible for providing advice and training on a range of
healthcare related legal issues. The post holder will be dealing with some of
the Trusts most important and sensitive cases. Provision of legal advice on
healthcare law related issues to staff across the Trust and when required.

Risk Management team provides advice, guidance and support on a variety of
issues including identification of risks; incident reporting; Duty of
Candour, incident investigation, claims management and inquest services.
You
will be required to support the Medical Director for Risk and Governance and
the senior management team in the Risk Management Department.

- Working knowledge of personal injury and clinical negligence litigation processes and protocols
- At least two years experience working in healthcare law related field at masters level or equivalent
