Our systematic approach to improvement is known as the Leeds Improvement Method and reaches across our organisation as well as the Integrated Care System.

Now is an exciting time to join the Kaizen Promotion Office (KPO) as we adopt a new structure that seeks to increase our ability to spread and embed our Leeds Improvement Method, maximising learning and improvement capabilities across the Trust and beyond.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an Improvement Specialist able to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, with the skills to enable others to learn.

The successful candidate will support the development and delivery of Leeds Improvement Method training in virtual or classroom-based learning environments. They will also support improvement projects and facilitate a variety of improvement events.

For success, this role requires you to bring clinical or operational experience in a healthcare setting, including having lead improvement work. You will need to be creative, and demonstrate the values, attitude and behaviours that support meaningful and sustainable change.

JOB PURPOSE

This role has been designed specifically to support the delivery of the Trust systematic quality improvement programme known as the Leeds Improvement Method [LIM].

The purpose of the Kaizen Promotion Office (KPO) team is to provide expert advanced lean tools, methodology and coaching to the teams within the value streams and deliver training.

Working with Trust Board members, senior managers, individuals, staff side organisations and patients to transform the Trusts operational and corporate services to deliver NHS targets and Trust objectives. This is achieved through a range of strategic and operational service improvements following the Leeds Improvement Method.

JOB DIMENSIONS

The post holder leads value stream activity that addresses defined organisational priorities. These reflect complex challenges where the post- holder facilitates change at an individual, team, service and organisational level to secure improvements in patient care, performance and staff experience.

The post-holder is required to interpret and identify potential organisational and service development implications from national and local policies to establish the requirements and options for the Trust.

Develop technical skills in lean and the Leeds Improvement method

Develop long term plans for value stream work with at least one CSU

Work across the Trust to provide expert KPO input to value stream work

Undertake data collection to support value stream work

Lead improvement events for existing value streams and develop skills to set up new value stream projects.

Be a key member of the KPO team who will have the expertise to take the programme forward

Deliver teaching and knowledge transfer to support future leadership development and the roll out of improvement initiatives

Coach others in the methods for improvement

Support and participate in standard work both within the KPO team and wider Trust work

Undertake budgetary management responsibilities as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Proven management experience in an operational or clinical role within NHS or related work.

Evidence of successful leadership of change.

Experience and skills in managing staff and the ability to identify training and development needs of staff.

Excellent written and communication skills, including interpersonal skills, writing complex reports, conveying highly complex and

sensitive information to a variety of audiences including senior managers and clinicians.

Advanced information analysis and report writing skills.

Excellent organisational and project management skills, able to manage own time and produce quality work to tight deadlines.

Budgetary management skills.
