Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospitals, one of the largest Acute Trusts in the country have an exciting opportunity in the Trust Data Network team. The team is seeking to recruit a Higher Level Network Technician to participate in the day to day maintenance of the Trusts data network equipment and infrastructure. The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills and work in a challenging, but very rewarding environment, in a progressive and constantly evolving environment. The Trust is currently undertaking a complete network refresh this is a fantastic opportunity to participate in a large scale network modernization programme.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have some experience working in a large scale data network environment, and be looking to extend their experience, alongside our senior engineers. They will apply their knowledge of data networks, to ensure the Trust maintains a fully functional network service and meets the needs of patients and colleagues.

The successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills and have the ability to work on their own initiative and within a team environment. Applicants will be required to work at any of the Trust's sites within Leeds, with a base at the St. Jamess University Hospital, or the Leeds General Infirmary, a valid driving license will therefore be an advantage.

Job responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will primarily be providing first line support and maintenance of the existing, extensive data network and the associated applications and services.

The Data Network currently supports over 12,000 wired Nodes (connections) and a rapidly growing wireless community supported by 2,500 wireless access points, across two major General Hospitals, four smaller hospitals and numerous support

Networking plays a major and key role in the delivery of modern healthcare. The network not only delivers standard business applications but also health specific administrative and managerial functions, pathology results and management, blood tracking, pharmacology information, and modern digital teaching. A key area of development for the data network is the delivery of digital images for Radiology, Cardiology and other departments, and a growing reliance on mobile access to clinical data.

High quality support and maintenance is essential to the delivery of a network service. The highly complex nature, large scale and diversity of network hardware, inevitably leads to faults and problems occurring. The post holder will ensure that issues are resolved efficiently and proficiently.

This function is the responsibility of the Information Technology Directorate within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
