Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity in the North East and Yorkshire Genomic Medicine Service for the right person to bring the people voice to the senior team. Focusing initially on our three laboratories you will build and deliver a people strategy that will underpin our ambition to operate regionwide as a single virtual team, delivering a high quality, equitable and efficient service for our patients. Our journey has not been easy, recent reorganisation, significant operational pressures and new ways of working have brought significant challenges. Main duties of the job

We are now looking for an exceptional individual with experience in a senior HR leadership role to scope, develop and drive delivery of our people strategy. As part of this you will support colleagues to develop an internal communications plan. You will also have an eye for the immediate high priority, people issues working with operational and HR colleagues to resolve.

Your role will play a crucial part in cultivating a sustainable workplace culture, driving organisational performance, developing a high performing team and ensuring the well-being of our colleagues.

The role is initially offered as a 12-month secondment. The key things we are looking for are:

A culture first, future focussed and regional mindset.

Experience partnering with external suppliers as well as other functions such as Internal Communications.

Project and change management experience leading significant programmes of work.

The ability to analyse insights from employee engagement surveys and other data sources to drive culture forwards and identify areas that need development and/or improvement.

About us

The North East and Yorkshire NHS Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) brings together regional Clinical Partners, the Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH) and the Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (GMSA) all working together to improve health and equity of access to genomic tests and treatments for patients in the region.

The GMS is made up of four Partner Trusts: The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Sheffield Childrens NHS Foundation Trust, and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Executive Directors from each trust form our GMS Partnership Board chaired by Professor Phil Wood CEO of the Leeds trust. The services are commissioned directly by NHS England's Genomics Unit and their SRO for Genomics, Professor Dame Sue Hill DBE, Chief Scientific Officer for England.

To work as a business partner to the North East and Yorkshire Genomic Medicine Service (GMS). To provide HR and OD expert advice, the post holder will be required to take the lead on HR, OD and Training and Development issues for their allocated areas, advising and recommending actions to Heads of Department, the GMS Executive team and Partnership Board thereby ensuring compliance with employment law and governance requirements. To build and deliver a people strategy that will underpin our ambition to operate regionwide as a single virtual team, delivering a high quality, equitable and efficient service for our patients including very complex workforce planning and employee relations issues. To take a lead role on initiatives, within the GMS, relating to workforce modernisation, staff engagement, health and wellbeing, workforce efficiency & productivity through effective people management. To identify and address development needs in relation to people management skills, capacity and capability. Working with partner Trust line managers and HR leads on effective appraisal and personal development implementation with CSUs.

The postholder is required to maintain knowledge on leading practice on workforce transformation. This will require a deep understanding of GMS challenges and opportunities to jointly develop strategies and delivery plans to achieve workforce transformation aligned to identified People Priorities. The postholder holds full accountability for the implementation of effective HR and OD approaches across their GMS, and for the quality of advice given on HR and OD issues to the GMS management teams.
