Job summary

Ophthalmology Outpatients is a busy outpatient environment, seeing over 200 patients a day. There are currently over 40 members of the nursing team, and they work closely with, the medical team, imaging team, transport and pharmacy plus others They are currently looking for someone who is patient centred, collaborative, someone who has organisational skills and able to use initiative to join their team as a Ward Environment porter. The role is predominantly at St James Hospital, but there will be a requirement at times to go to Seacroft Eye Clinic.

Main duties of the job

The main roles of the job, will be to assist patients on their journey throughout the department. Liaising with other departments to ensure prompt action such as picking up medications needed and organising transport. Helping to set up clinics in a morning and close on an evening and to lead on stock taking and communicating ordering requirements.

About us

Ophthalmology Outpatients has a nursing team of over 40 staff and works closely with the multi-disciplinary team. We currently have 2 ward environment porters in post, and are requiring a third to join the team. We work in a fast-paced environment while keeping patient needs as a priority. Some of our patients come back frequently and others do spend a long time in the department giving us the opportunity to get to know our patients. Ophthalmology Outpatients has been in Gledhow Wing for 1 year, so the successful applicant will be actively involved with the evolving practices of the team and department, and take on an active role in the service improvement and flow within the department.
