Job summary

Ward Manager/Senior Sister/Charge Nurse (Band 7) on the ENT & Maxillofacial In-patient Unit; part of the Head and Neck Clinical Service Unit.

This is an exciting opportunity to take a leadership role on a substantive basis on the ENT, Maxillofacial and Spines In-patient ward, L23 at the LGI.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will report to the Matron for the Head and Neck Clinical Service Unit. You will lead the nursing team across the 22 bedded Surgical Unit. You will work closely with the Consultants in all these specialties, as well as their teams, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Speech & Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

The ward supports an interesting diversity of services for patients and is always busy with a mixture of acute and elective patients including caring for post-surgery Head and Neck cancer patients. Most of the beds are currently for ENT & Maxillofacial patients, but we do care for Spines and Stroke patients.

Ideally, you will have clinical experience within ENT and Maxillofacial services in a Band 6 role or equivalent experience, and you will be looking for a new challenge, and the opportunity to join the committed and dynamic clinical team in Leeds. experience of airway management is desirable.

Supervise ward staff with regards clinical practice and patient experience to promote the delivery of excellent clinical standards

Provide a visible clinical lead and role model to the nursing and wider team by delivering high quality compassionate care as an expert practitioner

Ensure that documentation standards are maintained in accordance with NMC and LTHT guidelines, whether written or computerised.

Promote and maintain positive working relationships between all staff, internal and external to the Trust, involved in the care of patients

Set, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care, including those standards defined in local and national guidance

Maintain a safe working environment

Ensure the safe use and efficient management of equipment and supplies
