The Energy Management Team is pleased to offer a Building Management Systems (BMS) Technician position at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust

This post is a higher-level apprentice position, that will offer the right applicant, with pre-existing practical competency within electrical systems, the opportunity to gain on-the-job and external BMS training at our complex hospital sites

A successful candidate will need to have the necessary experience or qualifications in electrical systems to allow them to work in the live electrical panels within the BMS system

The successful candidate with be have multiple opportunities to develop their skills in a fast-paced, complex healthcare environment. They will be given extensive training in control electronics, programming of BMS systems and the development of smarter hospital buildings

As part of the Energy Management Team, BMS Technician will also have an impact on our sustainability, as they will assist in the management of energy, water, and carbon emissions and ensure that critical systems are working effectively to deliver safe patient careThis is a post suitable for an individual who wishes to develop and extend their specialised skills and knowledge in BMS for a large NHS Trust. The role will involve close day-to-day interaction with the Trusts two Senior BMS Technicians and the Energy Manager It will also involve close working with Trust electrical and mechanical engineering staff

Main duties of the job

This is a trust wide position, but predominately based in the BMS Team office at St James University Hospital in Leeds

Within the first year of the post holder being appointed, they are expected to take part in further study on a 3 Year, level 4 BMS Qualification.

The BMS Team sit within the Compliance and Risk Group within Estates and Facilities and are responsible for ensuring the safe operation of heating and ventilation systems and, at the same time, ensure that energy use is minimised.

This is also a hands-on team, and it is expected that you will be able to address maintenance issues within electrical panels and heating and ventilation equipment, working on your own or with other technical staff.

Other core competencies that will be developed over the course of your training:

Checking Controller Local Area Networks (LANs), managing Virtual LANs

Replacing damaged controllers to new Ethernet types (TREND IQ4-IQ5)

Fault finding on heating and ventilation control systems

Inverter programming and commissioning

Alarm monitoring of safety critical systems

Monthly backup of system data

Produce Reports for Energy Management

Data collection

Modifying/updating BMS Graphics

Plant equipment replacement (e.g. sensors, actuators)

Contractors/sub-contractors management

Investigating end users issues with their thermal comfort levels.

The Trust has been successful in receiving over £20 Million of government low carbon funding over the past 6 years and this role offers an opportunity to work on many cutting-edge technologies such as high temperature heat pumps and district heating networks.
