Job responsibilities
JOB
PURPOSE
To
assist the Facilities Manager Patient Environment in being the first point of
contact for all facilities within the allocated area ensuring that all services
meet the expectation of the patient, client and agreed service levels.
To
assist the Facilities Manager Patient Environment in achieving their
allocated area action plan and targets by leading and managing the Facilities
supervisors and operational team in a day to day basis.
To
assist the Facilities Manager Patient Environment in ensuring that the agreed
allocation so ensuring the agreed departmental, divisional and trust policies
and procedures are met.
To
complete any administrative tasks that are necessary for the smooth running of
their block.

KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Have
operational experience and knowledge in the complete range of Hotel Services
function.
To
have current experience in managing operational supervisors and staff.
Have
the ability, with guidance, to implement systems into the work place that
ensure consistent service provision
To
have demonstrated the ability of achieving operational goals and being able to
direct supervisors and staff on a day to day basis.
To
be able to perform all administrative tasks and be able to use any IT system as
appropriate to the role.

9. CORE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Professional
Have
a current knowledge of all infection
control techniques. Cleaning techniques, practices and the ability to identify
issues of underperforming functional areas and be able to deal with the issues
so rectifying the core problems.
To
have a current knowledge of patient food services practices both legal and
Trust food safety requirements and to be able to give on the spot advice to
his/her supervisor/ housekeeping team.
To
have knowledge base of all aspects of the PEAT requirements.
Understanding
To
understand the need to ensure that the agreed operational systems are
implemented on a day to day basis.
To
understand that all administrative and IT tasks are kept up to date, are
accurate and are filed accurately.
To
understand what is a good environment and assist in using the agreed systems to
improve the environment within the available resources.
To
understand the basic principles of all the Trust Human Resources policies,
practices and procedures.
9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF
RESPONSIBILITY
Management
To
assist the Facilities Manager Patient Environment in the day to day delivery
of the service and its systems. The post
holder will deputise for the Facilities Manager in their absence.
On
a day to day basis manage the performance and effectiveness of their
supervisors and Patient Environment staff.
To
give on the spot advice in practices, procedures and performance of their
Patient Environment Supervisor and staff.
To
spend a significant amount of time on the shop floor so having a good
understanding on what is happening on that shift.
To
build relationships with all levels of staff from Senior Sister down within
each functional area.
To
assist in the implementation of all the operational. Administrative systems
that have been directed by the agreed Patient Environment strategy.
To
monitor the performance on a day to day basis of all aspects of the Patient
Environment function and deal with any substandard performance.
To
ensure that all staff receive infection control training with annual refresher,
and that best practices/protocols are implemented, followed and adhered to at
all times.
To
ensure that all trust agreed infection control policies, practices and
procedures are adhered to.
To
ensure daily that the service provision remains within financial and weekly
paid hours targets.
To
implement any of the Human Resources policies, e.g. sickness, capability,
grievances, recruitment etc.
To
promote excellent industrial relations within Patient Environment and
Facilities.
To
work with potential new suppliers and current ones in ensuring effectiveness of
their performance in delivery and service.
Administration
To
make and maintain any records of staff and service provision that is identified
by the Deputy Head of Facilities.
To
produce a performance indicator document within agreed timescale.
To
operate any appropriate identified computer management system and ensure that
the information stored is accurate and up to date.
To
record and produce any minutes, letters etc that are needed for the smooth
running of Patient Environment.
Health
and Safety/Risk Management
All staff are responsible for working with their
colleagues to maintainand
improve the quality of services provided to our patients and other service
users. This includes complying at all
times with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Policies, including Health
and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures,
and reporting incidents using the Trust Incident Reporting system.

11. COMMUNICATION & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The
post holder will be a senior member of Patient Environment and Facilities and
therefore will be in constant communication with most levels of the
organisation.
The
post holder will have a close working relationship with the Facilities Manager
Patient Environment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
This post is a highly demanding job
that has a range of physical effort.
This
physical effort changes throughout the day from continually being on their feet
and walking long distances to sitting down and completing forms and reports for
long periods of the day.
Due
to the service being 24 hours, 7 days a week having to attend those different
shifts can cause physical tiredness due to continually changing work hours.
The
post holder does not routinely lift people/equipment but may at times have to
fulfil a Patient Environment operators role when teaching/demonstrating
Patient Environment systems.
MENTAL
EFFORT
The
mental effort in performing this post is consistent as there is huge pressure
from above to ensure good performance of their particular area.
This is substantial as they have to manage a vast
number of operational staff that bring a fair degree of mental pressure in both
encouraging them to perform or dealing with complex socialproblems.
There
is also a considerable mental effort in exercising the Trusts Human Resource
policy for example, sickness, disciplinary etc.
With
cleaning being nationally high profile this can cause a lot of mental effort
being consistently in the spotlight.
The
working of different shifts patterns can cause substantial mental effort and
tiredness.
EMOTIONAL
EFFORT
There
is emotional effort as the post holder works in many clinical areas where they
are seeing fellow human beings suffering or in a confused vulnerable
state.
