Electrical
Shift Engineer - Band 5 + Enhancements + Built In Overtime + Regular Overtime
The role of Electrical Technician working shifts four on, four off consisting
of two days followed by two nights is a rewarding and entrusted position
within the Estates team at St James Hospital. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS
Trust is a large Trust with a huge portfolio of equipment and systems. The
successful candidate will work as part of a shift team which can be
challenging and reliant upon the individual's ability to assess a situation
or breakdown and in the first instance make safe prior to planning a repair
scenario. They will form part of a dynamic team committed to pushing the
boundaries, working together to achieve the desired results and the best
outcome for our patients. You will work on complex systems, carry out dynamic
Risk assessments, work autonomously as required, organising and rectifying
reactive works and carrying out statutory planned maintenance items to ensure
maximum availability of equipment to minimize any downtime. The ethos is to

Main duties of the job
The
successful candidate will work as part of the shift team team alongside their
mechanical counterpart. You will be responsible for carrying out Statutory
PPM works as directed by their respective Estates Officer, utilise Estates
engineering systems such as K2,interrogate the BEMS, support and liaise extensively with other CSU's,
contractors and outside agencies. The position covers a wide spectrum of
responsibility supported by an on call Estates Manager out of normal working
hours. Often it is the first point of call for Estates related issues or
emergencies such as fires and floods/equipment breakdowns and as such the
successful candidate will need to have good communication skills and be able
to work under pressure as part of a team coupled with a solid engineering
knowledge base.
The
role will focus upon making safe first and foremost then working on
engineering solutions to enhance and support clinical colleagues in treating
patients. The ability to work with other trades, problem solve, interpret
work drawings, learn new techniques, undergo training, carry out assessments
are all key elements of the role. The role is about being organised, professional
and working to the HTM's and other guidance documentation and also providing
the necessary supporting documentation/feedback.
The
role can be challenging but rewarding and is one of the most important in
terms of both patient and staff contact.

engineering services. They will support the clinical teams out of hours,

log for audit purposes and engineering follow ups as required.

underpinned by theoretical knowledge and experience. Problem solving and

Statutory requirements and regulations, learning new techniques and a
willingness to undergo further training are also fundamentals of the role.
In
addition to this they will have other responsibilities supporting with the
diagnosis and resolution of problems on complex plant, ensuring compliance
with relevant Health and Safety and statutory regulations. They will plan and
organise works, working with other in house staff and contractors. The
ability to communicate well and negotiate with internal/external agencies is
fundamental to the role.
Provide
specialist support for emergencies, support the Estates management by
organising and supervising Estates work taking place in clinical areas,
liaising with users to organise shutdowns of critical and complex support
systems.
The
post holder will be expected to ensure accurate record keeping is kept for
plant and equipment when carrying out works working with the Trusts
engineering management system to provide an assurance that maintenance is up
to date and evidence of such is readily available. Key is the ability to work
well within a team and having the ability and flexibility to cover for each
other and work together, observing statutory and other relevant requirements.
