An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Facilities Operational Portering Team for a Portering Supervisor.

The ideal candidates will have previous experience working within some of the following functions and services, (list not exhaustive.)

Portering

Housekeeping

Domestic Services

Patient Food Service

Cleaning Response Service

Receptions

Pest Control

Window Cleaning

Waste Management

Linen & Laundry

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate could be supervising up to 40 staff, at any one time. This role is key in ensuring that all the services listed above are delivered to exceptional standards; this position is True Facilities Services Team Leading and would be an ideal opportunity for a highly ambitious, skilled and focussed individual.

Day to day duties include: staff rotas, payroll, attendance management, appraisals, audits & monitoring, liaison with site service-users & patients. The supervision of a team of portering staff working to Trust policies and legislative guidance. Ensuring that standards are maintained and the service is delivered to a high standard of quality providing a safe environment for patients and staff.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The day to day supervision of the portering team. Ensuring that work is fairly allocated to all team members to deliver maximum efficiency in the delivery of a high standard customer focused portering service.

Supervision of a team of staff working within Trust policies and legislative requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients.

Ensuring the timely and correct performance of routine and periodic duties.

ii) The taking of telephone requests, prioritising the work and appropriate allocation of duties to team members, including the use of IT communication systems.

iii) Assist with the training and induction of staff as required.

iv) The supervision of staff, reporting any breaches of discipline to the manager.

v) Ensuring that all staff maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, and are smart in their appearance and wear the correct form of uniform/protective clothing.

vi) Ensuring that all information is collected and recorded in the event of any accident and that appropriate action is taken to prevent any similar occurrences.

vii) To assist with the security of the building and contents as required.

viii) To record and complete duty rotas, time sheets and maintenance of staff records including control of overtime as required by the manager to help contribute towards the control of expenditure within budget.

ix) To keep the manager abreast of matters affecting the delivery of the service and to make recommendations on improvement.

x) To liaise with the manager on staff welfare and related problems.

xi) To provide information to the manager related to the use of the management information system in terms of costs and effectiveness to deliver the needs of the service.

xii) To promote good housekeeping to ensure that the hospital environment is kept tidy ensuring timely removal of any refuse/rubbish etc and that the use of inappropriate storage areas (e.g. corridors) is avoided.

xiii) Ensure that all equipment and materials are kept clean and in a good state of repair, reporting defects immediately.

xiv) To coordinate the changing and movement of medical gases ensuring that medical gas stores are stocked to the agreed levels and are kept in a safe and clean condition.

xv) To ensure that the porters accommodation is kept clean, tidy and free from rubbish.

xvi) To deal with enquiries from members of the public and to offer full assistance to persons requiring directions.
