The
use of data and digital technologies has the potential to revolutionise our
understanding of human health, treatments and to leverage efficiencies in
service provision. Leeds Teaching Hospitals has established a leading role
nationally for its use of routinely collected clinical data in research,
having established multiple commercial partnerships over the last 5
years.
Main duties of the job
This
role within the LTHT Research and Innovation Department will work as part of
the Senior Management team and have responsibility for managing the Research
Data and Informatics (R-DIT) team. The
post holder will lead on the informatics strategy for the research and
innovation department, supporting work to maximise the use of data collected
through the EDGE research management system and the development and
deployment of other digital applications and processes that will support
researchers and research managers.
They will also support the development of research projects with an
informatics component and ensure that projects are delivered on time and to
budget. The post holder will also need
a strong understanding of Information Governance, ensuring that strong
governance and assurance processes are in place for all research projects
utilising real-world data. The post
holder will need to work closely with other functions within the research and
innovation team, including our research delivery teams, as well as a wide
range of other partners including the LTHT digital and informatics team,
information governance, academic organisations, commercial partners, Leeds
Community Healthcare NHS Trust and other health and social care partners in
the city.

The
Research and Innovation Manager: Real World Data & Research Informatics
will lead the Research Data and Informatics (R-DIT) team based in the
Research and Innovation (R&I) function of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS
Trust (LTHT) which has 2 prime functions:
1. The extraction, de-identification and
curation of real-world datasets for research purposes which have been
gathered from routine patient care
2. Management and development of digital
systems and datasets that support the management and delivery of clinical
research within Leeds Teaching Hospitals.(Research Informatics).
The
role will include the day-to-day management of the team and oversight of
workload, management of the teams finances, management of the processes by
which researchers access support from the team. The post-holder will also support
management of projects involving real-world data with external partners and
support the close working relationship that exists between the University of
Leeds and the Trust.
The
post-holder will also support the development and implementation of an
informatics strategy for the R&I department, developing and implementing
digital technologies to help make research management and delivery more
efficient. They will also work closely
with the Trusts informatics team to ensure that planned developments in the
Trusts Electronic Patient Record (EPR) support research delivery in the
organisation and compatibility with the Medicines and Healthcare products
Regulatory Agency (MHRA) guidance.
They will also work with the LTHT Digital and Informatics Team (DIT)
to ensure that the necessary digital infrastructure is in place in the Trust
to support research needs.
The
post-holder will be part of the senior management team for the Research and
Innovation department at the Trust and as such will be expected to work
closely and provide cross cover for other members of the R&I Manager
team.
