Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Research and Innovation Business Team as Grant Funding Development Manager. This a challenging but rewarding role and involves working with colleagues in Research and Innovation, other teams in the Trust, and academic partners in industry and charity organisations.

Supporting one of our core values of collaborative working, you will build and maintain relationships to establish cross-institutional collaborations to develop the research portfolio and increase research income into the organisation.

You will be responsible for identifying and communicating funding opportunities to staff across the organisation and will take the lead in co-ordinating and managing the bid development process. You will support staff in developing grant applications so that they have access to specialist knowledge to help them develop partnerships and successful research funding applications.

Patient and Public Involvement is integral to all of our research activities and this role will work closely with our existing PPIE infrastructure

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in research and need to have a good understanding of the NHS research infrastructure, including the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), NHS and commercial research funding arrangements and support systems. The post will also require good managerial practice and project management.

Main duties of the job

The Grant Funding Development Manager has responsibility for growing the portfolio of fellowships and research grants from government (NIHR, Research and Innovation UK), EU and other research funders through strategic engagement and identification of relevant funding opportunities to enable R&I to achieve a key target of increase the amount of research funded through grants and the associated grant income.

The post holder will be required to foster collaborative relationships with clinical staff and other members of the Trust, other NHS R&I Departments, research funders and staff working with the University of Leeds and other Higher Education Institutes (HEIs).

The role will work in partnership with the Leeds Hospitals Charity, the Charitable arm of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, to run their programme of research grant funding calls and work tactically with them to increase funding for research from the wider charity sector and via Leeds Hospital Charity own fund-raising activities.

Main duties of the role include:

Research Funding Intelligence, including horizon scanning to identify funding and collaborative opportunities

Keeping abreast of new legislation relating to research activities

Preparing relevant information for R&I Communications to ensure research activities are visible to all staff

Identifying and securing funding and collaborative opportunities within the organisation and with colleagues from other organisations

One of its key targets is to increase the amount of research funded through grants and the associated grant income.
