We
are pleased to advertise two full-time (10 PA) Consultant Clinical Geneticist
posts. This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic individuals to join our
team within the Clinical Genetics Department based at Chapel Allerton Hospital,
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The Leeds Clinical Genomics Service (LCGS) provides Clinical
Genetics and Genomics services to a diverse population of c.4 million across a
large, varied geographical area. The service comprises an experienced team of
Consultant Clinical Geneticists, Genetic Counsellors, Genomic Associates and
Genetic Research Nurses/Practitioners, as well as Specialty Trainees, Clinical
Fellows and trainee Genetic Counsellors, supported by a large clinical
administrative team. LCGS is a member of the North East & Yorkshire Genomic
Medicine Service (NEY GMS), and the service works closely with the Regional
Clinical Genetics services based in Newcastle and Sheffield.
LCGS
is based at Chapel Allerton Hospital in Leeds, with the Central Lab of the
North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub (NEY GLH) situated at the
nearby St. Jamess University Hospital. Genetics clinics are held in the Leeds
hospitals, a satellite unit in Hull and virtually. In addition to providing general and specialist genetics clinics, LCGS
contributes to a variety of multidisciplinary teams including oncology, fetal
medicine, cardiology, ophthalmology and musculoskeletal services.

Main duties of the job
We
are seeking dynamic and motivated individuals to join our forward-thinking
team. These replacement posts will provide the successful
applicants the opportunity of working within an innovative and supportive team.
Applications are invited from those with rare disease and cancer interests and
there are opportunities and support to develop specialist clinical interests.
Successful candidates will contribute to a wide variety of local and regional
projects including research and innovation, service development and
transformation, and the education and training of medical students, doctors and
other health professionals.
The
successful applicant should possess MRCP or MRCPCH (or equivalent) and should
be included on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT at the time
of interview if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment
regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist
Register.
Applicants should have
established skills in Clinical Genetics.
A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a
research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants
who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

specialist Clinical Genetics and Genomics Services. The general activity will provide consultant
cover for Leeds and regional paediatric and adult general genetics
clinics. The specialist activity may
cover areas such as prenatal clinics, cancer clinics, Genetic Cardiac (Inherited
Cardiac Conditions) clinic and/or other areas of the post holders interest.

In addition to general paediatric and adult genetics clinics, the
service runs specialist genetics clinics in Adult and Paediatric Cancer
Genetics, Prenatal Genetics, Pregnancy Loss, Inherited Cardiac Conditions,
Huntington Disease and adult neurogenetics, Skeletal Dysplasias, NF1,
Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), and Craniofacial genetics. The
service runs a number of multidisciplinary clinics with other specialties
including Fetal Medicine, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology,
and Neurosurgery.
