Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to fill this new post within the Radiology Department at the Leeds General Infirmary/St Jamess University Hospital. The successful applicant will join a team of 6 Chest Radiologists who work cross-site to deliver a range of diagnostic and interventional Thoracic Radiology services and contribute to several MDTs and clinic-radiological meetings. The team is supported by a common secretary and have shared office space with dedicated desktop for carrying out SPA and administrative activities. The successful applicant will also have access to home working option.

Members of the team are also a part of the Yorkshire Lung Cancer Screening Trial Research which is run by the University of Leeds and lung cancer screening will soon be incorporated into the NHS programme. The team is anticipating an increase in workload in line with the planned roll-out of the Lung Cancer Screening programme.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in Thoracic Radiology and its related specialties including a arrange of image guided procedures. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

2.1 The post holders skills in Thoracic Radiology and a range of Image guided interventions will complement and support the current demand on the service to deliver care to patients with Thoracic Radiology needs at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust including

Supervision of patients

Working with other staff and teams to ensure that waiting times are met

Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings

The post holder will also be involved in the development of a Community Diagnostic Hub and also in establishing an academic programme focusing on intervention oncology and Nuclear Medicine radiology led by Professors of Radiology. We require a range of diagnostic and related Interventional skills to complement those of the existing staff, in a post working across-site at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the workings at the proposed community diagnostic hub. The post holder will be based primarily at Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds.

2.2 To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Radiology CSU and across the Trust

2.3 To work with colleagues in Radiology to deliver a diagnostic acute on call (1 in 24 from April 2025) for Cat A. This includes both out-of-hours cover in addition to acute work during normal working hours.

2.4 To contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within Thoracic Radiology. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department.
