Job summary

Required to fill this replacement post within Leeds Childrens Hospital at the Leeds General Infirmary.

This post will deliver 8 PAs supporting the Cleft Lip and Palate team and will be based at Leeds General Infirmary. The successful candidate will also support the team in providing tertiary Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery clinics across the region.

INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD VIA MS TEAMS: Friday 6 June 2025

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should possess CCT in a recognised cleft surgical specialty (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in primary and secondary cleft lip and palate surgery in children and adults. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on:

'Factors I believe are most important in the future delivery of high-quality and effective cleft lip and palate surgery'.

The Cleft Lip and Palate Service based at Leeds General Infirmary provides all aspects of multidisciplinary cleft care and management across the Yorkshire regional network. Whilst all cleft surgery is undertaken in Leeds at the General Infirmary other aspects of cleft care are provided on a hub and spoke basis with regular network multidisciplinary clinics in Bradford, York, Wakefield and Hull, as well as in Leeds. The appointee to this new substantive post will work in conjunction with the incumbent cleft surgeon who has reduced clinical activities to a part-time basis. The post is available immediately however it is expected that the successful applicant will take up this post within 2-3 months of appointment.

The service is fully staffed by all members of a cleft multidisciplinary team and is supported by a cleft administrative team including Cleft Co-ordinator and Audit Administrator. The team enjoys good relations and mutual support with colleagues in Newcastle.

Leeds childrens Hospital Childrens Services in Leeds has 280 inpatient beds.The Clinical Service Unit employs a total of 80 consultants, 56 of whom are Paediatricians providing general, specialist and community childrens medical and surgical services.

Following a review of Trust-wide acute hospital services, the centralisation of Childrens inpatient services was be completed in 2010 on the Leeds General Infirmary site.
