Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic consultant immunologist to fill this replacement post with the Leeds Immunology & Allergy services. The appointee will become a key member of a dedicated and highly experienced multidisciplinary team.

The job is a full-time post comprising of ten programmed activities, with supervision of the junior doctors and specialist nurses. There is a commitment to clinical advice on call on a 1:3.

The Leeds Department of Immunology & Allergy is based at St Jamess University Hospital. The department has a worldwide reputation for its clinical and academic achievements and our aim is to provide a first-class service. The department has gained QPIDS accreditation. We are committed to providing high quality specialist care to patients, suffering from allergic, immunodeficiency and autoinflammatory disorders. Great emphasis has been placed on delivery a friendly, consultant lead, patient centric service. Our multidisciplinary teams are a key part of our success and include anaesthetics, clinical nurse specialists, pharmacists and researchers. There is a dedicated outpatient and Day-Case facility at St Jamess Hospital. The post includes dedicated time to support our immunology laboratory.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should possess Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, (or equivalent) and should have completed a recognised training programme in clinical and laboratory immunology as per curriculum outlined by JRCPTB or equivalent body.

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

This post is a full time (10PA) post. The appointee will work at St Jamess University Teaching Hospital, where there will be outpatient & laboratory responsibilities. There is a commitment to Immunology on call on a 1:3.

The post will join Dr Sinisa Savic, Dr Anoop Mistry, Dr Claire Stockdale (Locum Consultant) & Dr Mark Kacar (Locum Consultant) to provide specialist services for the West, North & large parts of East Yorkshire. Altogether the service serves a population of just over 3 million people. We also provide a supra regional service for patients with systemic autoinflammatory disorders.

The successful candidate would join the other 2 substantive consultants & 2 Locum Consultants in the team. They are expected to work closely with the current multidisciplinary team to sustain current capacity of Allergy & Immunology services with a view to expand in the near future, ensure the smooth flow from diagnosis to treatment & follow up, including developing innovative ways of working to sustain increasing patient load, contribute to the Immunology & Allergy on call rota.

  • Sustain the current capacity of the service for clinical allergy and immunology work, with a view to expansion following further development of nursing clinics and review of patient throughput.
  • Ensure the smooth flow from diagnosis to treatment & follow up
  • Support development of Allergy & Immunology Service

Work closely multidisciplinary team & developing innovative ways of working to sustain increasing patient load
