Job summary
We
are looking for an individual to fill this replacement post within the Neurosurgery
Department at the Leeds General Infirmary.
This is a 10 PA substantive appointment for a
Consultant Neurosurgeon, with a special interest in Neurooncology and
competency in general neurosurgery.
This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the
neurosurgery team: Mr K Deniz, Mr R Corns, Mr I Anderson, Mr A Sheikh, Mr R
Mathew, Mr N Phillips, Mr A Tyagi, Mr J Goodden, Mr P Chumas, Mr G Sivakumar,
Mr C Derham, Mr D Pal, Mr S Selvanathan, Mr P Sinha, Mr C Kellett. The post will be based at Leeds General
Infirmary.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should hold accreditation
in FRCS (SN) and should be on the Specialist Register or be within six months
of being admitted to the Register for trainees, if currently in a training
programme within the UK. In accordance
with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors
must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have established skills in Neurooncological
Surgery and a recognised Fellowship in Neurooncology is desirable. Excellent
communication and team-working skills, a strong commitment to undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching and a research interest are desirable. Participation in service
development is essential.
Consideration will be given to applicants
who wish to work full or part-time and those wishing to job share.

- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of general Neurosurgery.
- Specifically, he/she must demonstrate higher training in Neuro-oncology.
Desirable
- Fellowship training in Hydrocephalus and/or Neuro-oncology

- Should have completed a recognised training programme in Neurosurgery or be within 6 months of CCT.
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.

- Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
- Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
