Job summary
We
are looking for an individual to fill this replacement post within the Adult
Acquired Cardiac Surgical Department at the Leeds General Infirmary.
The
appointee will be based at the Yorkshire Heart Centre with access to leading
clinical expertise and medical technology. The Leeds General Infirmary provides
care for those all over the country as well as the 790,000 population of Leeds.
The
successful candidate will be part of a team of 6 surgeons, consisting of 2
mitral specialists and 4 aortic surgeons
The
appointee will participate in the 1:6 on-call rota for adult cardiac surgery
and will be expected to deal with common emergencies and support cardiology
colleagues in the catheter lab.
If shortlisted, you will be required to
give a 10-minute presentation on the following topic:
Public reporting of cardiac
surgical outcomes provides transparency and underpins the credibility of
National Health Service providers.
However, public reporting
environments have been associated with some degree of risk aversion resulting
in exclusion of high risk patients and adversely impacting training and
innovation. Discuss.

Main duties of the job
The
Cardiac Surgical team offer an outreach service to neighbouring hospitals,
where the appointee will be expected to participate in relevant MDT meetings.
The Cardiac team run 2 theatres on
a daily basis from Monday-Friday and surgeons have access to 1.5 operating
lists per week.
The
successful applicant should possess FRCS CTh (or equivalent) and should be
included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of
interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment
regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist
Register.
Applicants should have established
skills in Cardiac Surgery. A strong commitment to undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants
who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.
