An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dietetic Assistant to join our friendly Childrens Dietetic Department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals on a part-time (31.875h/0.85TWE), fixed term basis until the 31st March 2027. You will be working primarily within our ketogenic and home enteral feeding services alongside other dietitians, dietetic assistants, nutrition nurses, keto MDT colleagues and other health professionals involved in the patients care.

You will assist in the provision of a high-quality dietetic service to children, young people and their parents and carers in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual, with excellent communication to work as an integral member of our team.

The ketogenic and home enteral feeding services are well established, and you will be supported to develop your knowledge and skills to perform the varied duties of the role. You will be based at the Leeds General Infirmary within the childrens dietetic dept.

Main duties of the job

You will provide administrative and clinical support to both specialities, and cover at times of colleagues leave (within your scope of practice). Duties may include basic nutritional assessment/advice and nutritional monitoring and education. You will liaise with patients, carers and other healthcare professionals within the hospital and within community settings (e.g. GP, community nursing teams, schools). You will support with recipe development and other resources. You will arrange and provide equipment and supplies. You will assist with product and stock management. You will be supporting safe discharges including patients receiving tube feeding. You may participate in audit of patient care.

The Leeds Childrens hospital is one of the largest childrens hospitals in the UK. We offer a wide range of secondary, tertiary and supra-regional services. We provide services for the children of Leeds and across the Yorkshire and Humber Region and in some cases further afield.

Our Childrens Dietetic Team is a large, friendly and supportive department of 36 staff, including Childrens Dietitians, Dietetic Assistants and Dietetic Associate Practitioners, Special Feed Unit Technicians and Admin staff. We are part of the wider Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Nutrition and Dietetic Service and have close links with adults.

You will provide cover for colleagues at times of leave and we will support you with appropriate training opportunities to facilitate and ensure this is within your scope of practice.
