An
exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Midwife within the Neonatal
Service at Leeds Teaching hospitals NHS Trust on our Transitional Care Units.
We are looking for dynamic and highly motivated individuals, who can
demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills and will provide
support and education for junior staff. We are looking for individuals who
are passionate about providing high quality postnatal care with a commitment
to keeping mums and babies together and a focus on ensuring and improving

Main duties of the job
Providing
postnatal and neonatal care as part of a commitment to keeping mothers and
infants together. This may involve caring for mothers from birth and
supporting mothers who have been separated from their babies and are being
reunited prior to leaving hospital.
You
would be working as part of both the neonatal and maternity teams providing
holistic family integrated care. You will work collaboratively with
specialist maternity and safeguarding agencies to care for families with
complex needs including substance misuse and mental health issues.

will be based on the Transitional Care Units which forms an integral part of
the Leeds Centre for new born care, one of the largest neonatal services in
the country consisting of a total of 74 cots which includes 19 Transitional
Care cots split over 2 sites..

Job responsibilities
The
post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development,
implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, and may be required to
teach other midwives and non-midwifery staff. They take responsibility as the
prime care provider for a group of women.
The
post holder is a prime care provider who is required to practice clinical
skills developed through experience but at a more advanced level than
required for those who have just qualified as midwives.
The
post holder is designated to take charge of a ward in the absence of the
person who has continuing responsibility.
The
maternity unit has approximately 10,000 births a year. LTHT is a tertiary
referral centre for both obstetrics and neonatology. Other specialities
within the hospital that impact on maternity unit are feto-maternal medicine,
adult and neonatal cardiology, neonatal surgery and a reproductive medicine
unit.
The
post holder will work within the maternity unit or community, caring for
women and their babies before, during and after pregnancy depending on the
area.
They
will participate in internal rotation throughout the maternity units and
covers both day and night shifts.
The
midwife maintains personal contact with women and meets their needs on an
individual basis by listening, assessing, planning, implementing and
evaluating care. Is aware of the anxieties of women and their families and
the support they may need.
The
midwife ensures that the appropriate practitioner is informed promptly of a
complication or change in the mother's or baby's condition.
The
midwife ensures effective communication with health care professionals and
other personnel to ensure continued care to the patient and assists in the
smooth running of the ward or area.
Reports
on the changes occurring in treatment and client needs during the shift and
is prepared to work in areas of the midwifery service other than were based
in order to meet the requirements of the service.
