We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Ward Clerk to join our friendly and supportive team across L31 (Childrens Haematology and Oncology Ward), L32 (Stem Cell Transplant Ward), and L33 (Teenage Haematology and Oncology Ward). These three wards work closely together as one team, delivering outstanding care to children and young people facing cancer and blood disorders.
As a key member of the ward team, you will provide essential administrative support to ensure the smooth running of daily operations. Youll be the first point of contact for patients, families, and professionals, helping to create a welcoming and organised environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing a professional reception service for patients, families, and visitors
Supporting the multidisciplinary team with accurate record-keeping and clerical tasks
Managing patient admissions, discharges, and transfers on our hospital systems
Coordinating with other departments to facilitate timely investigations and appointments
Maintaining stock of ward documentation and stationery
Ensuring confidentiality and compassion at all times
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an integral member of a large multidisciplinary team, working alongside administrative staff, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, patients, and their caregivers. They will provide a professional and welcoming front-of-house service, greeting patients and carers at the ward reception, registering them on the hospital system, and directing them to the appropriate waiting area. Key responsibilities include accurately recording real-time patient admissions, discharges, and transfers using the Trusts Patient Administration System. The ward clerk will also manage incoming telephone calls and reception enquiries, including monitoring the main entrance to the ward. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for ordering supplies through the Oracle procurement system and ensuring the wards stationery cupboard is well-stocked and maintained.

We care for children and young people with a range of non-malignant haematological disorders; Leeds is a Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia and a Specialist Centre for Haemoglobinopathy.
