The Leeds Childrens Hospital have a new and exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Family Support Worker. The role of the Family Support Worker is to provide a dedicated resource for children, young people, siblings, and parents, offering practical and emotional support throughout their hospital journey and in the community.
The successful candidate will join experienced and dynamic clinical teams who are committed to improving the lived experience of children and young people with life threatening non-malignant haematological (NMH) and liver and renal (LR) diseases, and their families. The post will be based at Leeds Childrens Hospital and the majority of the post holders time will be spent supporting families on the childrens haematology day unit and in the community. The post holder will also support families who are admitted to intensive care or the haematology inpatient wards, where the need is identified. The post holder may be expected to work some weekend shifts.
Main duties of the job
The jobholder will carry continuing responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating programmes of practical and emotional support for children, young people, and their families. This post will have a community focus, including, but not limited to working in familys homes, schools or organising community events, The post holder may also work alongside the lead family support worker on the Childrens Haematology and Oncology Day unit or the Haematology inpatient wards. The jobholder will work closely with clinical teams and charity partners to ensure the best possible wrap around care is delivered to families throughout their entire hospital journey. The successful candidate will contribute to exciting service development projects and will ensure cost effective use of resources.
About us
The Non-Malignant Haematology team at Leeds Childrens Hospital currently comprises; one Band 7 CNS, one Band 6 CNS, a dedicated pharmacist, four Consultant Haematologists and a varying number of trainee Haematologists.
The workload is split across onsite at the Leeds Childrens Hospital, in the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit, wards L31 and L33, in the CNS offices, and the community.
The MDT work collaboratively and respectfully to provide the best possible care for children, young people and their families.
