The
Leeds Neonatal Service delivers care to over 1400 babies per year. We have 14
intensive care, 16 high dependency, 10 newborn born surgical and 16 special
care cots cross city. We also have a 13 bedded Transitional care unit on the
St James Hospital Site and 6 Transitional care cots integrated into the post
natal Ward on the Leeds General Infirmary Site.
Have
you got a proven record of clinical experience and expertise in Neonatal
Intensive Care and neonatal surgery? We are looking for highly motivated,
dynamic individuals with the ability to enable and empower their teams.
Strong leadership and performance management is an integral aspect of this
Band 7 role with patient experience and patient safety underpinning all care
delivery. You will be responsible for co ordination of the units on a shift
to shift basis managing the nursing establishment, attendance, appraisals,
mandatory training and competency assessments. You will be expected to
provide an assurance that standards are met and sustained for every patient,
every time. A support package will be developed to support the successful
applicant's needs. You will be expected to work cross city and fulfil a 24/7
shift system
Main duties of the job
Provide leadership to the clinical
team
Support and inspire staff to
provide efficient, effective, safe, quality care to patients
Deliver a positive patient
experience
Promote the building of effective
teams and collaboration between teams
Anticipate problems and take
preventative or mitigating actions, or
have contingency plans available
Work with Matron to lead the
development of ward/department nursing practice, reflecting the Clinical
Service Unit and Trust business plans
Work with the Matron and or Head of
Nursing to suggest and develop new roles/ways of working
Delegate and empower staff whilst
maintaining overall, continuing responsibility and accountability
Line manage the nursing team,
including individual and team performance, attendance, management and
workforce planning
Ensure the effective deployment of
staff is mapped against the flow of patients to provide safe and effective
care
Support and participate in local
and trustwide recruitment events
Manage the use of bank and agency
Investigate and respond to
accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events
Deliver an effective, safe, quality
service within budgetary envelope
Raise and respond to concerns with
regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrongdoing by following the LTHT
whistle blowing policy and supporting processes
Deputise for Matron in their
absence

ward/department. They will provide professional, clinical, managerial
leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible
for developing and maintaining a ward or departments philosophy that has the
patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery.
Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the
jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.
Current
services comprise 55 cots cross city. The role requires management of approximately 170 whole
time equivalent nurses and support staff in partnership with the Lead Nurses
and Matrons for the Service. The jobholder will coordinate the units on a
shift by shift basis. The jobholder will work cross city and will be expected
to cover a 24/7 shift system
