Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, proactive Childrens
Nurse with a background and experience in Epilepsy to lead our Childrens
Epilepsy Nursing service. The
service support both secondary and
tertiary epilepsy and the VNS patients.
We
are looking to recruit an individual with excellent partnership, networking
and communication skills who has clinical and some operational management
experience, strong leadership skills that can motivate individuals and teams
to build and sustain change.
Excellent
organisational and communication skills are key elements for this position
together with a genuine compassion and commitment to care for children who
have epilepsy and their families.
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will be responsible for the day to day clinical and professional
leadership/ management of the Children's
secondary and tertiary Epilepsy Nurse specialists to ensure safe and
effective care delivery. Overseeing the effective and efficient use of skills
and resources to ensure the team and the service is organised to meet the
needs of the patients and their families.
The post holder will act as a role model for
the team in terms of clinical and quality standards, providing clinical
leadership and support to all team members.
The
post holder will provide nursing expertise, undertaking assessment and
provide education and support to patients and their parents and to other
health professionals. A non-medical
prescribing qualification (or willingness to obtain) is integral for the
role. The post holder will be involved in, clinical audit and service
development.
About us
The
post holder will work closely with both Childrens Neurology Consultants,
Secondary Epilepsy Paediatricians, Neurosurgeons and Community paediatricians
to provide responsive and supportive services for children who have had a
diagnosis of epilepsy.
Support
will be provided by the matron, which includes preceptorship period, regular
1:1 meetings, team meetings, and appraisal for the upcoming year.

- Registered Nurse (Children's)
- First Level Degree of equivalent demonstrable experience
- Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience of teaching and assessment
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Post registration qualification in specialty or equivalent demonstrable experience
Desirable
- Master Level Degree Education or equivalent experience
- Extended/Supplementary Prescribing
