Job summary
We
are seeking to appoint an inspirational, experienced and enthusiastic Head of
Nursing who is passionate about providing the best patient care to children and
young people and their families across the Leeds Childrens Hospital.
The
Head of Nursing is a key role within the Clinical Service Unit leadership
triumvirate team working alongside the Clinical Director and General Manager,
collectively accountable for the strategic and operational delivery of one of
the biggest and most complex CSUs in the Trust.The successful candidate will
need to recognise our Leeds Way Values and lead the implementation of the
Nursing and Midwifery Strategy across the Childrens Hospital.
Youll
be expected to utilise expert operational and clinical knowledge to ensure
effective, robust working relationships with senior management and clinical
colleagues both within LTHT and external to the Trust.

Main duties of the job
The
post-holder will:
Provide strong professional
leadership to a well-established and highly performing nursing team.
Line manage a senior team including
a Deputy Head of Nursing Matrons, and
Lead Nurses
Provide nursing leadership in
delivering the CSUs priorities, such as workforce development, quality
improvement, Hospitals of the Future programme and the Leeds Improvement Method
value streams
Support the General Manager and
Clinical Director in deciding the strategic direction and management priorities
for the CSU
Will champion patient centred care
ensuring safety; quality and patient experience are embedded in everything we
do.

Childrens hospital Business Management Team is led by the Deputy General
Manager and made up of a team of Service Managers, Business Managers and over
100 admin and clerical staff. There is also a Service Improvement team that
sits along side the business team and works closely in identifying, developing
and promoting innovation.

Managerially
accountable to the Clinical Director and professionally accountable to the
Nurse Director (Operations), the Head of Nursing has overall responsibility for
the leadership and management of nursing and midwifery across the Clinical
Service Units (CSU). This includes the line management responsibilities for
Matrons within the CSU and the management of specific clinical services/areas.
They
are the named and identified lead for all issues relating to nursing and
midwifery practice within the CSU and will be identified as the senior
nurse/midwife within the CSU triumvirate.
They
are responsible for decision making where practice or service delivery issues
cross matron speciality or when cross speciality leadership is required. The
Head of Nursing will establish and foster an effective working relationship
with the CSU Clinical Director and General Manager to lead improvement in
nursing/midwifery care, service delivery and the achievement of organisational
priorities within the CSU. The Head of Nursing will deputise for the Clinical
Director on as required basis.
The

and cost effective and compassionate nursing/midwifery care within the CSU and
provides assurance evidence to the Nurse Director (Operations) and Deputy Chief

delivered within a significantly large CSU. This would equate to a
nursing/midwifery workforce of more than 600 whole time equivalent staff and
could cover more than one hospital site.
However,
the area of responsibility may be smaller in size and volume if there is a
requirement for large scale change of service or that the complexities of the
service are significant. Complexities of the service may come from the national
profile that the speciality attracts or the consistent need to engage and work
with stakeholders/agencies outside of the organisation.
