Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated senior registered nurse or midwife with post registration safeguarding experience with a keen desire to improve the outcomes for vulnerable children, young people and their families, to join our team.

Supporting the Named Nurse for Children to drive forward the safeguarding children agenda, key responsibilities of the role will include providing support, guidance and expert advice to the safeguarding team and frontline staff; developing and delivering training and safeguarding supervision; supporting with monitoring practice and progression of improvement plans. The post holder will deputise for the Named Nurse for Children, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to contribute to multidisciplinary and multi-agency safeguarding children activities and supporting the operational management of the Children and Midwifery Safeguarding Team.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate robust knowledge and experience in the field of Safeguarding Children, possess excellent organisational skills, effective communication skills, experience in teaching, supervision and the confidence to provide positive professional challenge and support to effect change.

2. JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will undertake the role of the Deputy Named Nurse for Safeguarding, acting as a senior Safeguarding Nurse within the Trust with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding providing day to day management of the Children and midwifery safeguarding team and acting as a central point of contact for, health professionals and partner agencies that have safeguarding children and child protection concerns.

The post holder will work in partnership with the Head of Safeguarding, Named Nursefor Safeguarding and the other Named Safeguarding Professionals in ensuring that the safeguarding children statutory requirements are met within as of the Children Act 1989/2004.

The post holder will demonstrate advance skills and competencies to influence the pathways of care in the safeguarding in children services. The role requires a comprehensive and sound knowledge base of legal literacy of Children Act and family law that interface with the safeguarding children agenda.

The post holder will in partnership with the Head of Safeguarding, Named Nurse for Safeguarding, Head of Children / management team lead in the development and delivery of high quality, evidence based services to children and their families identified as having safeguarding concerns.

To have responsibility for supervision of staff in relation to the delivery and maintenance of safeguarding children standards across the children department covered by LTHT.

Be responsible for the audit of safeguarding practices within the children setting

3. JOB DIMENSIONS

The post holder will work closely with the Leeds Children Hospital, transitional services within the Trust and other services from across the region for all children and young people.

To participate in specialist education and training in relation to safeguarding to clinical and non-clinical staff across all teams caring for children and young people.

To provide professional and managerial leadership and evidence-based support to all staff caring for children and young people in relation to safeguarding.

To be knowledgeable of the NMC code of conduct and to be accountable for practice in accordance with that code, along with the Roles And Competencies For Healthcare Staff (2014)

To support the Named Nurse and other Named and Link Professionals in issues relating to safeguarding children.

Deputise for the Named Nurse for Safeguarding in their absence through attendance at meetings.

Support the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children where necessary to represent the Trust at Local Safeguarding Children Partnership LSCPs including attending LSCP sub-committees as appropriate.
