If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen in the Professional Practice &
Safety Standards Team (PPSST) for three Senior Nurse/ Midwife / AHP to join
our dynamic and progressive team. Based at St James University Hospital with
travel to other sites. The position is full time, working Monday-Friday,
offering flexible working hours, including one working from home day a week,
where able to.
One
position is a 12-month secondment, working with the Clinical Support Team
within the PPSST. The CST has a wide ranging portfolio that includes working
clinically alongside and supporting ward teams,to improve safety in the
area,the clinical work is often based on adult inpatient wards but support
could cover all areas within the Trust.
The
other two posts are full time permeant positions to work as part of the
Professional Practice & Safety Standards corporate nursing team who are
involved all aspects of patient safety across the Trust. The post offers
excellent opportunities for development into a corporate role, whilst still
maintaining clinical contact with patients and professional colleagues. If

Main duties of the job
The
CST post holder will be involved in undertaking and reporting assurance
visits and the monitoring and progression of the Ward Health check metrics
program.Providing clinical support,training and education to staff members
and works with nursing teams to develop skills/methods to support wards in
improving standards.Whilst supporting other projects conducted by the PPSST.
The
other post holders will work as part of the PPPST to implement a range of
projects in the Trust along with ensuring compliance to key performance
indicators.This involves initiating contact with clinical staff,
investigating, analysing data, mapping workflows, implementation,training,documentation (including policy and protocol development) and supporting
wards and departments teams.The post holder will participate in the planning
and management of projects as required.Provide feedback to relevant corporate
and operational teams on progress and issues relating to clinical practice on
wards and clinical areas.
Additionally,
as an experienced Nurse/AHP/Midwife, you may be required to work
with a team of staff to provide time limited support to the Matron, Ward
Sister and clinical teams to ensure consistent high-quality care is delivered
when measured against key performance indicators. This will involve
co-ordinating activities on the ward/dept ensuring effective communication is
maintained at all times,providing support to qualified and unqualified
nurses within the ward/dept.

Job responsibilities
The
PPSST cover a wide range of workstreams at LTHT, these include but are not
limited to Mixed Sex breaches, Falls, DAISY and IRIS awards, Ward HeathCheck
Metrics and Perfect Ward, Enhanced Care and Documentation.
The
post holder will need to be able to lead operational activities identified in
project plans in order to manage and implement defined projects targets,
notifying the managers when issues or problems occur. This will involve initiating, planning and
organising work schedules and project plans.
Develop
effective communication with nurses/AHP/midwifery and other healthcare
professionals in order to foster a good understanding of clinical systems and
the roles and responsibilities of staff who use them.
Identify
the risks associated with the implementation of new projects, and to assist
the other project leads in monitoring and reducing these risks.
To
provide regular updates or progress reports to strategic collaborative groups
as required by the project manager and assurance groups.
To
manage any issues and concerns expressed by ward leaders, matrons and heads
of nursing.
To
build effective relationships with the managers and staff of designated
departments and clinical areas, providing support.
To
promote nursing/AHP/midwifery change projects and act as a champion to
encourage acceptance by new users.
Raise
concerns with regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrong doing by
following the LTHT Whistleblowing Policy and supporting processes.
To
take part in testing relevant software applications, document the results and
highlight any concerns that may relate to nursing use. Use clinical
experience and judgement to determine the importance of any system
deficiencies found during testing.
To
use clinical knowledge, judgement and experience to determine how to
configure and use clinical IT systems for nurse/AHP/midwifery processes,
particularly where opinions differ on the best approach.
To
collate and document feedback, issues and comments from users and managers
and use the feedback and their professional judgement to develop processes
and future improvements.
To
carry out audit work related to clinical systems.
To
assist other clinical leads in analysing new local, regional and national
initiatives and imperatives, relevant to clinical systems and identify
responses to them. To share these proposals with senior staff in Informatics
and other relevant groups within CSUs.
To
represent the Trust in networks relevant to the Corporate Nursing agenda at
local, regional and or at a national level. To use these networks to share
best practice and to bring information and new ideas back to the Trust team.
To
deliver presentations, and demonstrate the product to all levels of clinical,
administrative and managerial staff in a manner that is appropriate for the
audience.
To
deliver one to one and classroom-based training to staff of all levels
including clinicians and management.
To
support the preparation of user guides and training materials and provide
input into the structure of training sessions.
The
jobholder will assist the Head of Nursing, working collaboratively with
clinical colleagues to improve project implementation across the Trust.
