We are looking for an outstanding individual with a recognised qualification in Infection Prevention who is ready to expand knowledge and practice in this exciting and evolving specialty. There will be opportunity, rotationally, to support specific Clinical Service Units such as Leeds Childrens Hospital.

We are seeking a registrant (Nurse/AHP) with a professional approach, excellent leadership skills, experience of change management, and who demonstrates the ability to work with people to empower and facilitate outstanding IPC practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy are essential. Secondment opportunity also considered.

Main duties of the job

JOB DIMENSIONS

To ensure the maintenance and development of clinical excellence in healthcare by informing and utilising the Trusts policies, strategies, audit processes, education and research agenda with reference to infection prevention and control.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Leadership

Provide leadership to the clinical team working with Matrons, develop new roles/ways of working

Provide a visible clinical lead and role model to the nursing and wider team by delivering high quality compassionate care.

Support staff to provide efficient, effective, safe and quality care to patients as an expert practitioner.

Deliver a positive patient experience.

Support in the delivery of an effective, evidence based, safe, quality service within budgetary envelope.

Responsible for the day to day supervision of junior clinical staff and students within the specialist team.

Motivate staff in the delivery of quality patient care.

Anticipate problems and take preventative or mitigating actions, or have contingency plans available.

Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events.

Ensures that workload and performance monitoring data for the team is collected, collated and utilised to ensure the effective and efficient working of the team. Reviews this information with Matrons on a regular basis.

Work with the Matrons in the development of specific elements of nursing practice, reflecting the CSU and Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals business plans.

Engage users and carers views on service delivery and development.

Propose, develop and implement policy, protocols and practice guidelines specific to the clinical specialty.

Exercises a personal duty of care in relation to equipment, resource and stock control utilising equipment and supplies appropriately.

Clinical

To provide expert infection prevention and control advice based on sound evidence and national guidance

To lead the implementation of the Trust IPC policies and guidelines and provide a strong senior role model

Provide high quality care as an expert practitioner and act as a role model and resource for advice, support and guidance.

Provides specialised advice contributing to the diagnosis and care of patients.

Responsibility for ensuring setting, monitoring and seeking to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care.

Undertake clinical procedures where dexterity and accuracy are required.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care and treatments using specialist clinical knowledge and clinical skills.
