We are looking for individuals with a desire to deliver high quality education and clinical support for colleagues entering our Trust by an exciting new pathway.

You need to be highly motivated and confident at providing education in classroom settings and have a keen eye for assessing clinical skills.

You will be part of a team supporting our unregistered workforce in this new education boot camp and providing pastoral support in clinical settings.

This opportunity will allow you to develop assessment skills, refine your teaching skills and consolidate your clinical knowledge. You will be required to prioritise your own workload, work autonomously and within your scope of practice whilst liaising with the wider Work Based Learning team.

This post is a secondment for 12 months.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

The post holder will support the corporate education team and Clinical Service Units by facilitating education, training and development opportunities for unregistered healthcare practitioners and learners. These opportunities will contribute to the provision of a workforce that is kind, collaborative, expert and aspirational. The post holder will help to champion and co-ordinate the development of the Clinical Support Workers (CSWs) who are new to the trust and to the care environment. This will include supporting the nursing education team in the delivery of the Care Certificate Programme and other clinical educational programmes to support learning opportunities linked to the requirement of the CSW role. The post holder will, in the first instance, implement and support the delivery of educational programmes across Leeds Teaching Hospitals, such as the Care Certificate programme. This will include supporting CSWs in clinical areas by assessing their competence to achieve a high level of clinical care though the practice and attainment of the care certificate performance document.

There will also be the opportunity to be involved in other workforce and education projects within the team to shape the future of our workforce.

4. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Clinical

- Managing own caseload of identified learners. Identifying and implementing support mechanisms to be put in place for individuals and identified groups of learners to ensure maximum opportunity to succeed

- To support with assessment planning, observation of work activities, assessment of underpinning knowledge, recording judgements and portfolio building - which can be electronic and paper based.

- Delivering skills development including classroom-based/work-based delivery.

- Undertake clinical assessments on CSWs performance identifying and creating action support plans as required

- Providing support to work-based placement assessors ensuring that contact is maintained as directed in accordance with local procedures

- Inspiring and motivating Learners to achieve

- Support and assess Clinical Support Workers (CSW) in clinical areas to achieve a high level of clinical care in line with the Care Certificate performance document.

- Promoting the use of education and training in the development of a skilled support staff workforce by being a visible presence and acting as an apprenticeship advocate across the Trust.

- Assist in the implementation of Trust-wide nursing, midwifery and allied health professions (AHP) policies and practice guidelines

- Provide high quality care as an expert practitioner and act as a role model and resource for advice, support and guidance, demonstrating the role of a CSW

- Ensure and promote the maintenance of a safe, clean and secure working environment

- Supervise and maintain accurate records using the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and partner organisations documentation and electronic staff records (ESR)

- Undertake duties on other wards or departments as and when required by service demands or patient need.

- Have knowledge and understanding of completing competency assessments using observation or evidence of learning.

Education and Training

- To support the co-ordination, facilitation and delivery of the Care Certificate programme for CSW or other non-qualified roles

- To work in conjunction with nursing educators to promote and support the delivery of range of generic and bespoke learning activities for new and existing CSW.

- To set up and prepare teaching rooms and learning resources and to facilitate our virtual learning programme.

- To provide support, guidance, mentorship, and coaching to individuals staff that are undergoing a performance review due to concerns raised regarding capability.

- To support the nursing education team in evaluating the effectiveness of learning activities and support redesign programmes to meet the organisational needs.

- To ensure effective communication between the ward managers/matrons to facilitate effective learning.

- To support ward teams in identifying areas of learning for the CSW

- Organises own workload and organises clinical visits to support CSWs

- Promote an effective learning environment within the workplace

- Facilitate and deliver clinical education programmes in clinical areas and in clinical education environments

- Act in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults at all times. Is familiar with and adheres to, the LTHT safeguarding policies.

- Raise concerns with regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrong doing by following the LTHT Whistleblowing policy and supporting processes.

- Participate in own appraisal

- Undertake mandatory and priority training within the required time scales

- Collaborate with Organisational Learning and Professional Development departments in the provision of training and education

- Contribute to the maintenance of detailed and accurate records regarding staff education, including monthly and quarterly reports

- To ensure that ESR records are up to date with Care certificate compliance

- To undertake administrative duties as needed.
