We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our team. This is a new and interesting role working within a supportive, experienced small team.

As part of the skin cancer CNS team you will be expected to liaise with the Leeds Cancer Centre and participate in the recording of holistic needs assessments and the other stipulated assessments of cancer patients. You will possess excellent organisational skills and will be capable of working as an integral part of a busy multidisciplinary team as well as being able to work independently using your own initiative.

As part of the role within the team the successful candidate will be required to participate in the setting up and facilitation of skin cancer patient support groups as well as being actively involved with the development of gold standard up to date patient information.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the management of a defined caseload of skin cancer patients seeking advice from their senior when necessary.

The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills in order to provide advice, support and information from the time of the diagnosis of a skin cancer and throughout the patients care pathway. This will be both within a clinic setting and also via telephone.

As part of the skin cancer CNS team you will be expected to liaise with the Leeds Cancer Centre and participate in the recording of holistic needs assessments and the other stipulated assessments of cancer patients. You will possess excellent organisational skills and will be capable of working as an integral part of a busy multidisciplinary team as well as being able to work independently using your own initiative.

Subsequent to training you would be expected to see and assess skin cancer patients in the fast-track clinics (with Consultant supervision). You would also be

expected to undertake direct to surgery telephone consultations and manage the histopathology results of this cohort of patients. Support of skin cancer patients receiving radiotherapy treatment and immunotherapy treatment is an expected element of the role.
