Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to work in our Neurosciences Physiotherapy Service at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Rotational Band 6. The post sits within a large neurosciences physiotherapy team as part of a rotation that covers all aspects of a patient with Neurological impairments journey. The rotations include hyperacute/acute stroke rehab, stroke rehab, neuro outpatients, neurosurgery, spinal surgery, neurology and complex rehabilitation with each area led by an experienced band 7.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate post graduate experience and clinical knowledge of the assessment and management of a variety of patients. They will be required to demonstrate an ability to work both as an autonomous practitioner, and as part of multidisciplinary teams for the best outcomes for our patients. Good communication skill is essential both with patients and our colleagues and respectful behaviours to all.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role are the assessment and treatment of a wide variety of neurologically impaired patients in a variety of environments including critical care, wards and outpatient department. You will carry your own caseload and be expected to time manage this alongside other commitments you may have. You will work closely with the Band 7 team leads to clinically manage more complex conditions depending on your level of experience and at times lead the service in their absence.

Training and development are a crucial part of this role, particularly supporting newly qualified and unregistered staff to have regular educational support and also other members of the MDT where applicable. Alongside this there will be opportunities to be involved in aspects of clinical audit, quality improvement, quality governance and research.

9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Clinical

To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work relating to the assessment and treatment of patients in your care undertaking clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

To undertake the comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients including those with diverse/complex /multi pathological presentation. This will necessitate the use of investigative and analytical skills to formulate an accurate diagnosis and treatment from a range of options.

Using investigative and analytical skills to formulate individualised management and treatment plans including the development of comprehensive discharge plans.

To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

To demonstrate dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory skills in the assessment and manual treatment of patients.

To develop and deliver the physiotherapy element of the rehabilitation programme, and on occasion to deliver some elements normally undertaken by nursing or occupational therapy colleagues.

To be an active member of the out of hours service.

Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to progress treatment and rehabilitation programmes. This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.
