Job summary
The Endoscopy Service is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to take on the challenge of band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse. This role is an exciting opportunity to join the senior nursing team within the Endoscopy Bexley Unit and provide leadership to a team of dedicated nursing staff who support patients through their endoscopy journey. The Endoscopy Service at LTHT has developed significantly over the last 18 months and is providing a diverse service targeted at equality, fair access and individual patient needs, with a strong focus on positive patient experience and utilisation of capacity. The Endoscopy Unit at Bexley predominantly specialises in delivering acute and complex therapeutic endoscopy procedure, accepting patients on a regional or national level. The service also treats some of the most acutely unwell patients within St James, running daily inpatient acute endoscopy and ERCP lists. The acuity of this unit enables staff to experience areas such as acute theatres and critical care settings on a regular basis. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in the 24/7 on-call acute GI bleed service covering SJUH and LGI.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will at times take on the role of nurse in charge and have the responsibility for co-ordinating the acute unit on a daily basis, ensuring safe staffing levels, good patient flow and that staff are continually motivated and strive to deliver the highest standard of patient care and experience of our service.
We are looking for an innovative, dynamic individual with the ability to enable and empower their team. The individual would need to be able to work on their own initiative, and have a keen eye for future service development. Strong leadership and performance management is an integral aspect of this Band 6 role with patient experience and patient safety underpinning all care delivery. As a band 6 you will be responsible for training and mentoring junior staff and supporting them to reach their full potential and practice safely.
About us
The Endoscopy Service currently provides care across 2 sites, Leeds General Infirmary and St James University Hospital. Successful candidates will be based at our St James site, however there maybe an expectation of working cross city as part of the competency training programme provided within the Endoscopy Service. Both sites provide elective and acute inpatient and outpatient activity. The departments are currently open Monday to Friday 7:30-20:00 - we are an inclusive service, willing to explore a variety of shift patterns and flexible working for the right candidates. We also provide an out of hours GI Bleed service for Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
