Job summary
The Urology Benign Clinical Nurse Specialist is a highly skilled nursing professional responsible for providing specialised care and support to patients with benign urological conditions. This role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care, patient education, and management of urological disorders. The CNS will utilise advanced clinical expertise to assess, diagnose, and implement evidence-based interventions tailored to individual patient needs.
Provide education and counselling to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and self-management strategies.
Mentor and support nursing staff in the management of urological conditions and procedures.
Participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care in urology.
The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability and enthusiasm to develop within a large specialist nursing team. Show emerging talent for change management, an understanding of effective leadership incorporating the Leeds Way Values. The CNS team is undergoing expansion, and this is an exciting time to join a developing team working with a Band 7 and Matron to develop and improve care and pathways for urological patients.

Main duties of the job
As a Urology Benign Nurse Specialist, the candidate will engage in a variety of critical tasks focused on patient care and clinical support. Their responsibilities include:
-Patient assessment to inform treatment plans.
-Care plan development working collaboratively with the MDT to ensure an evidence-based approach to treatment.
-Patient education.
-Monitoring and evaluation effectiveness of treatment plans.
-Research and quality improvement to improve patient outcomes.
-Mentorship, sharing knowledge and expertise to foster a culture of learning and expertise within the team.
-Documentation in-line with the Trust Policy.
The applicant will act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct. Provide a specialist nursing service for patients with Benign urological disease who require support and treatment through the continuum of care.
Deliver an outstanding service to our patients, and to also build an environment for our team to continue to evolve and thrive.
Providing pathway driven care of patients with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms, Bladder Pain Syndrome, Bladder Stones, Catheter care, Andrology and ongoing audit to influence expansion of the service.
Provide leadership in clinical practice within Benign remit.
Create exchange of learning opportunities within the MDT in relation to evidence based Benign urological disease care delivery.
About us
Abdominal Medicine and Surgery is a large clinical services unit based at St James Hospital, comprising 11 in patient wards that look after patients with conditions varying from; urology, gastroenterology, colorectal, upper gastro-intestinal, HPB, liver transplants and renal, as well as acute surgery. We are also a regional specialist urology center, and the nurse specialists support this by arranging and treating patients through benign urology pathways.
