Job summary

The Leeds Formulary Pharmacist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals is responsible for supporting the safe and timely introduction of new and innovative medicines into practice, as part of our Medicines Advice service. Providing the professional secretary role for the Trusts Drug and Therapeutics Group, you will help to ensure decision making around new medicines is evidence based, co-ordinated across the Trust and wider ICS, and that the introduction of new medicines is achieved in an efficient, timely and safe manner for the benefit of patients. This will involve working collaboratively with clinical, commissioning and funding teams across the Trust and wider to ensure that these outcomes are achieved. You will also work within our busy Medicines Advice Service to provide evidence-based answers to questions about medicines to patients, carers and healthcare staff. The post holder will maintain a commitment to an agreed clinical area of pharmacy, and support colleagues to develop their own skills within your areas of expertise.

Main duties of the job

Provide a highly specialised enquiry answering service from the Leeds Medicines Information Service. Provide a Clinical Pharmacy service or undertake a lead operational role to support medicines optimisation activity in the Trust. To deliver the Medicines Information & Formulary related objectives identified in the Medicines Optimisation strategy. To work across the Trust to ensure information required for formulary and commissioning meets the need of the process. Trust wide provision of proactive information to support effective Medicines management including e-formulary, To plan the information needs for the introduction of new medicines process and ensure the information is available as needed. To develop and deliver processes that enable effective use of information such that a consensus can be reach about the managed entry of new drugs. To plan and provide information that supports Horizon Scanning in LTHT and support the national role for MI in this area.

What you will bring to the role

Working across the Leeds Formulary Pharmacist role and within Medicines Advice, we're looking for a pharmacist with a broad range of post registration experience, with a post graduate clinical diploma or equivalent, and ideally experience of working within a Medicines Information / Advice service. You will be a good communicator, and able to work well with others across the multidisciplinary team managing complex information in a timely and professional manner. You will be an advocate for the benefits of evidence based practice with the ability to apply these principles to practice, and to teach others.
