We currently have an opportunity available to join our
enthusiastic, motivated and friendly team, working in one of the largest
cardiac catheter lab suites in the UK.
If you wish to pursue a career in Cardiac Radiography we can
offer you the opportunities needed to develop your existing skill set, and to
train to the highest level of expertise. Whilst previous cardiac / angiographic
experience is preferable, full training will be provided.
The department currently has six catheter labs, and we have
just completed a multi-million pound contract to update all six of our labs to
the most current technology and state of the art software on the market. We
also opened our specialist bi-plane paediatric Hybrid lab in April 2019 which
provides treatment for children with the most complex congenital heart problems
across the Yorkshire and Humber areas.
The unit is a regional centre for paediatric and adult
congenital heart disease and a tertiary referral centre for adult coronary
intervention.
There will be a commitment to partake in the on call
service, as well as extended working hours in both areas following supervised
training, and the post holder must have the ability to transport themselves to
the department within 30 minutes of being called out (i.e. personal
transportation) or stay on site for on call.
As a Band 6 Radiographer in the Cardiac Catheter Lab, you
will play a crucial role in providing high-quality imaging and patient care
across a variety of complex cardiac procedures.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
Performing diagnostic and interventional radiographic
procedures in our state-of-the-art catheter labs.
Supporting multidisciplinary teams in delivering
high-quality patient care across a wide range of specialties, including
coronary angiography, Electrophysiology studies, pacemaker/device implantation,
congenital and paediatric procedures and TAVI.
Contributing to departmental audits, quality assurance
activities, and patient safety initiatives.
Maintaining high standards of patient care and ensuring that
all imaging protocols are followed correctly.
Engaging in research opportunities and staying up-to-date
with the latest developments in interventional cardiology.
Working flexibly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment,
adapting to changing priorities as needed.
You will have the opportunity to work with an experienced
and supportive team, offering you invaluable exposure to cutting-edge clinical
practices and a wide range of complex procedures.
Full equipment training will be provided as part of the mentorship programme, as well training on imaging protocols and standards of image quality. As a Band 6 Radiographer you will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside Clinicians, Nurses and Cardiac Physiologists. The successful candidates will need to be flexible and will participate in department 24/7 shift patterns including on call working.

The post-holder will be responsible for their own workload for a defined area or particular patient type working on their own initiative without direct supervision, managing their own case load. Specialist radiographers will work within their own scope of practice as defined by the HCPC.
To contribute to the development and delivery of an effective and responsive radiology service.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Clinical Responsibilities:
- To assess clinical authorisation of radiology referrals in line with the National Regulations, Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R), 2000, Nuclear medicines and MRI safety and local protocols as appropriate to the imaging speciality.
- Act in the role of an Operator and Practitioner*, within own scope of practice, by clinically justifying imaging requests from the clinical information provided referring to the work areas Protocols & Technique Guidelines as a reference if necessary.*as defined in IRMER 2000
- To work without supervision, taking legal responsibility and accountability for all aspects of your own work.
- To liaise with referral source where clarification is required regarding selection of the most clinically appropriate imaging examination.
- To act as a point of advice for imaging referrers.
- To act as a point of reference for patient enquiries regarding their referral, for all issues relating to hospital attendance for example; radiation protection or MRI safety issues, Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), Interpretation services and freedom of information services.
