Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the new Rob Burrow Centre for MND at Seacroft Hospital for a band 7 Business Manager. The role is mainly based in the new centre but the candidate may need to travel to other hospitals in the region.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills and a passion for delivering the highest standard of care. You will be able to use the latest technology for communication with patients, staff and volunteers. You're not only a team player but also able to work and think independently and deputise for the director when required.

You must be forward thinking, innovative and love a challenge. You must have at least 3 years experience at managerial level and be a problem solver. A compassionate, cheerful, friendly, disposition is a must, as is a sense of humour.

A clean current driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable.

The post is 1.0 WTE (37.5 hours per week) and is for a fixed term period of initially 2 years but we do expect this to be extended. Part time working may be considered for the right candidate.

About us

The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a brand new facility built in the grounds of Seacroft Hospital specifically for MND patients and their families. The Centre is run by Dr Agam Jung (Director) and Dr EngChaun Foo (Co-director). The MND team consists of 3 specialist nurses, a multi disciplinary team including respiratory medicine and gastroenterology and a team of volunteers.

This bespoke centre aims to deliver the highest quality clinical and holistic care and wellbeing for patients and their families. Education and research will be one of the main focus areas of the centre.

The centre is part of the Neurosciences CSU, which includes specialities such as Neurology, Neurosurgery, Spinal Surgery, Pain, Stroke, TIA and Neurophysiology. Dr Jonathan Bilmen is the Clinical Director, Mr Robert Rathbone is the General Manager and Mr Robin Derby is the Head of Nursing for Neurosciences. Dr Maruthi Vinjam is the Clinical Lead for Neurology.

To manage the Rob Burrow Centre for MND, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals living with Motor Neurone Disease. The post holder will oversee the multidisciplinary team and coordinate services. The role involves strategic planning, service development, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including charities such as MNDA and Leeds Hospital Charity Fund to improve outcomes for patients and their families.

The post holder provides management support to the CSU or a component part of the CSU. He/she will have responsibility for the performance of administrative and clerical staff and will ensure that services are delivered within budget to agreed quality standards and in accordance with agreed activity levels.

The post holder will also work with members of their CSU and other senior managers in the strategic development of the services provided by the CSU. This will include strategic and operational business planning and monitoring, and the development of relationships with key internal and external partners. The post holder will ensure the CSU functions as an integral part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and that CSU and Trust-wide objectives are achieved simultaneously.

Devolved responsibility for both pay and non pay budgets in the CSU

Responsible for staff who may work Trust-wide across several disciplines and clinical specialties.

Assist in the performance management of the Centre

Line manage administrative, clerical and secretarial staff within the Centre, and take management responsibility for their personal development and performance review

Responsible for the procurement of medical and scientific capital equipment

Assist in the operational aspects of major service and capital planning

Contribute to developing and sustaining capacity and capability in the Centre

Lead specific project work on behalf of the Director of the Rob Burrow Centre

Key Responsibilities

  1. Service Delivery and Management:

Manage the day-to-day operations of the MND Care Centre, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.

Develop and implement care pathways in line with national standards and best practices.

Develop a holistic programme for therapies for patients and carers, working closely with the Leeds Hospitals Charity and the Hospital Volunteering Team

Develop a childrens and young peoples programme with the family support worker for wellbeing and healing for patients, families and their carers.

Monitor and evaluate service performance, identifying areas for improvement.

Act as a key point of contact for patients, families, and carers, providing support to access services at the centre via a dedicated email/telephone.

Ensure smooth running of clinical work and MDTs at the Rob Burrow Centre.

Ensure smooth running and support the development of a world class MND educational programme for patients and healthcare staff

Support the MND research programme operating out of the Rob Burrow Centre for MND both locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
