We
are looking for a dedicated and approachable Trust Doctor to join our team in
managing ophthalmology services within Leeds. This position would suit a post-CCT
doctor who has demonstrable interest in all areas of Ophthalmology with prior training in a higher specialty area. Competence in cataract surgery is also
desirable.

The
job comprises a mix of General Ophthalmology work, Ophthalmic Emergencies, a range of sub-speciality work but more specifically Oculoplastics and Glaucoma, Intravitreal Injections, YAG and Retinal Laser. There will be some, but limited, theatre opportunities.
The
post requires an immediate start and is a temporary position for 6 months only with no opportunity for extension.
Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold
a license to practice at the time of appointment.

from the wider Consultant Team. The post holder will be expected to be flexible to meet the demands of the Service and work accross a range of sub-specialities as needed.
The
post holder will also be expected to develop a deeper understanding of
management issues within Teaching Hospital Departments and the wider Trust.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
- Achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the categories in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of applicati
- Achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application
Desirable
- 36 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice
- Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1competencies in medicine or Surgery (as defined by the curricula relating to Core Medical training or Core Surgical Training)

- Subspecialty experience in one or more ophthalmic sub-specialities, to include assessment, diagnosis and management of conditions in the out-patient setting.
- Knowledge and experience of current imaging and surveillance modalities in Ophthalmology.
- Experience in assessment, diagnosis and management of acute presentations in the emergency setting.
- Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems, prioritise clinical need, maximise safety and minimise risk
- Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient
- Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues
- Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-informed practice
- At least 4 years experience in medical/surgical specialities by the time of intended start date
- Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation

- Further experience of managing surgical patients, including their post-operative review.
