Cancer Internship Nursing Programme

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake an internship training programme within cancer care.

We are currently recruiting Registered Nurses, with a minimum of 2 years' experience, into our Cancer Internship Programme, starting October 2026.

The aim and objective of the internship programme is to grow and develop the cancer workforce and provide excellence in cancer care across our organisation.

Successful applicants will be committed to 7.5 hrs per week of learning. This includes working as part of a specialist cancer team at Gateshead.

The provision of clinical placements will be available across a variety of cancer specialities.

Successful applicants will enrol onto the Principles of Integrated Cancer Care and other Long-Term Conditions University module at Teesside University. The programme is delivered via online learning.

Please note this is not a substantive position. This is a learning opportunity, which must be in agreement with your current line manager before applying.

Main duties of the job

The Cancer Internship Programme is designed for Registered Nurses with a minimum of 2 years post registration experience in a clinical area, with an interest in cancer nursing. The individual may aspire to move into a Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist role in the future.

The programme will incorporate clinical placements (one day per week) in cancer teams throughout the programme. There will be 3 core hub areas in which the intern will spend a proportion of their time within the 6-month programme. These will be allocated following the application process.

As part of the programme interns will complete an accredited Level 7 module, Principles of Integrated Practice in Cancer and other Long-Term Conditions, delivered through self-directed distance learning with the University of Teesside.
