Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust

Radiology Secretary

The closing date is 08 April 2026

Job summary

Are you organised, proactive and passionate about supporting high-quality patient care behind the scenes? We're looking for an enthusiastic Radiology Secretary to join our friendly and fast-paced Radiology team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving and being at the heart of a busy clinical service. You will play an essential role in helping the department run smoothly -- supporting Consultant Radiologists, preparing cancer/specialist MDT meetings and ensuring patients and colleagues receive an efficient, professional service every day.

No two days are the same, from preparing imaging for MDT, to managing correspondence, organising consultant rotas, or supporting pre-assessment clinics. You'll work closely with Radiologists, Radiographers, Nurses and fellow secretarial staff, becoming an integral part of a team dedicated to delivering excellent patient care.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Highly organised, with great attention to detail

  • A strong communicator who can work sensitively with patients and colleagues

  • Able to prioritise a busy workload and stay calm under pressure

  • Confident using IT systems and keen to learn Radiology-specific software

  • Positive, flexible and ready to support a dynamic and evolving service

If you enjoy making a real difference behind the scenes, thrive in a collaborative environment, and want to develop your skills within a supportive team, then we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As a Radiology Secretary, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of our busy Radiology department. You will provide high-quality secretarial and administrative support to Consultant Radiologists and the wider team, helping ensure patients receive a timely and well-coordinated service.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Duty Secretary

  • Managing diaries and handling enquiries in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Preparing imaging and paperwork for cancer and specialist MDT meetings, ensuring information is accurate and ready on time.

  • Processing internal and external image requests -- including urgent "blue light" transfers -- to support safe patient care.

  • Running daily checks to ensure reports are actioned promptly and flagged appropriately.

  • Supporting consultant rota organisation, pre-assessment clinic administration and general departmental coordination.

  • Using Radiology systems (RIS/PACS/PAS) to maintain accurate records and keep patient pathways moving.

This role is ideal for someone organised, proactive and confident with multitasking. You will be an important part of a friendly, supportive team, helping us deliver excellent care to patients across the Trust.
