Job summary
The post is for an enthusiastic doctor who is post MRCS and aims to pursue a career in Trauma & Orthopaedics. It offers an opportunity to develop their career in a friendly DGH setting with ample clinical opportunities. The on-call commitment is second on call in a 1:9 rota, though this may change to 1:8 in the future. The main clinical duties will be across both emergency and elective orthopaedic care. Opportunities for clinical research are available and can be tailored to individual requirements. The department has a successful track record of getting trainees into core training and also in supporting the FRCS examination.
You will be allocated a clinical supervisor during this post.
Ideally the successful applicant will have completed Foundation Training (or equivalent). Applicants should have passed the MRCS.
The post is a 6 month contract and is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The Middle Grade Staff (Associate Specialist, SPR and Senior Clinical/ Teaching Fellows) are attached to individual consultants and their duties include the following:-

- Attendance at daily 08:00 Trauma meetings. You are expected to have reviewed all patients admitted the previous day to present at the meeting.
- A 11am documented ward round must be carried out with the ward cover SHO, F1 doctor and the nursing staff. This aims to review all trauma patients regarding their orthopaedic problems.
- Second on-call cover for emergencies. You must respond to an A&E call if the SHO is called away to see a sick patient.
