Job summary

As a part of the development of new working practices, we have the opportunity to recruit a Consultant Gynaecologist with a special interest in colposcopy to a substantive appointment of 2.5 PA, with the sessions to be delivered at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead.

Working on one day per week, this post will improve the overall resilience within the service providing dedicated Consultant provision into the service. This improved resilience will not only enable the service to continue to further develop their existing service for patients, but also ensure the department is able to support and deliver high quality training opportunities for trainee colposcopists.

Following appointment, opportunities may arise for local service development opportunities which are complimentary to the current wide range of special interests held by the existing team of Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeons and colposcopy specialist nurses working in the department.

Gynaecologists who have completed relevant colposcopy training and have extensive experience of working as a colposcopist, are invited to apply.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate should expect to undertake 2 dedicated colposcopy clinics per week, attend the colposcopy MDT and MDT business meetings and complete associated administration (results and patient communication) within the procedures set out by the NHS-CSP and local governance arrangements. A proportion of the allocated sessions will be given over to core SPA in pro-rata arrangement consistent with national terms and conditions to enable you to engage in service development, audit and continuing professional development activity. You will be expected to provide training opportunities within the clinical sessions for trainee colposcopists from medical and nursing backgrounds. There is no on call associated with this post.
