Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for 1 full-time and 1 part-time Waiting List Co-Ordinator to join our established team at Gateshead maintaining the elective waiting lists across all specialities.
The successful candidate will need excellent organisational/communication skills including an outstanding telephone manner as well as excellent keyboard skills, be competent in microsoft packages/be able to demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality. Medical terminology would be advantageous.
Ideal candidates will have previous NHS experience in a secretarial/admin role and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of how to manage any challenge this role can bring.
The post holder will manage and prioritise their own workload on a daily basis and use their initiative and discretion to manage competing priorities. The ability to work well under pressure is essential.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate for the full-time post will work Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and the part-time post 9am-5pm Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, although you will need to be flexible to the needs of the service and be committed to high quality patient care. You will be based at the QEH site - although may be required to occasionally work from home. There is a possibility that the part-time post may become full-time in the future.
Main duties of the job
- Proactively manage patients referred for elective surgery, both urgent/cancer and non-urgent, adding to waiting lists/ensuring VBC compliance and calculating pathway dates in line with local and national targets.
- Schedule surgery and any other related appointments across all surgical specialties, monitor progress, identify potential breaches & liaise with clinician/other parties to resolve, plan and manage effective utilisation of theatre lists.
- Main point of contact for patient and third parties (eg other clinicians, GP, police, social care, legal) to resolve queries, respond to requests for information or notify third party of information as required by clinicians.
- Provide information to assist performance reporting and resolution of queries or complaints (e.g. DATIX) as required
- Collating performance information as required by clinicians or service management.
