Job summary

The post holder will support the programme manager in the service delivery and is responsible for the operational management of the SSP team and will therefore be the primary contact for the day to day organisation of the SSP team.The post holder will perform direct clinical care and therefore maintain their professional skills as a Specialist Screening Practitioner.

Main duties of the job

To support the Programme Manager in the day to day operational management of the screening programme and deputise as appropriate in their absence ensuring senior cover.Is responsible for the managerial aspects of the Specialist Screening Practitioner team, to include off duty provision, appraisal, monitoring of sickness absence. significant proportion of role delivering direct patient care/maintain SSP competencies.To co-ordinate and provide care from the screening centre to meet needs of individuals.To work across screening sites to provide equitable services in line with national standardsTo work collaboratively with the Hub in the provision of the hub nurse advisory service.To assist in the management of the centres Key Performance Indicators.To promote effective communication across the Bowel Cancer Screening service ensuring that all staff are aware of both the Trust and Directorate aims and objectives.To ensure effective data management as per national requirements in line with data protection regulations.To assist in the supervision and monitoring of the Screening Quality Assurance standards within the Bowel Cancer Screening service.To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team providing an efficient and effective service to patients.To assess service delivery by utilising patient experience/feedback and complaints to improve the service pathways.To work under pressure with accuracy whilst maintaining a professional disposition.

Job responsibilities

To support the Programme Manager in the day to day operational management of the screening programme and deputise as appropriate in their absence ensuring senior cover.Is responsible for the managerial aspects of the Specialist Screening Practitioner team, to include off duty provision, appraisal, monitoring of sickness absence in line with Trust policy and recruitment & selection. To spend a significant proportion of time delivering direct patient care and maintain Specialist Screening Practitioner competencies.To co-ordinate and provide care from the screening centre to address the needs of individuals, arising as a consequence of the Screening Programme.To work across screening sites to provide equitable services in line with national standards To assist and support the Programme Manager in making operational decisions based on professional judgement, experience and knowledge of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.To coordinate and manage screening patients across the Consortium liaising with associated MDTs, other clinical teams in primary & secondary care, other screening centres, Trusts /Operational Leads.To support programme manager to maintain communications with the Clinical Director/ screening colonoscopists / SSP, Programme Manager of activity and performance of the screening programme, identifying any difficulties arising and recommending on their solution.To maintain effective communication within the Bowel Cancer Screening service and develop good professional relationships within the profession and other disciplines at all levels.To respond to complaints providing and receiving complex, sensitive or contentious information where persuasive, negotiation, empathetic or re-assurance skills may be required.To communicate any policy changes which may affect working practices where motivation, persuasion or negotiating skills may be required.To attend Regional and National screening meetings as appropriate to role or to deputise for the Programme Manager in their absence.
