Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a well-respected and high performing team of Consultants at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead. We are looking to recruit an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist whose main interest is in gynaecology. The successful applicant will be highly involved in the Rapid Access service and provision of general benign gynaecology clinics and theatres. They will contribute to the obstetric on-call and hot week rota, and antenatal clinics. There is the opportunity to develop our TOP services.

This post offers the opportunity to practice high quality gynaecology in a friendly, dynamic and well-respected District General Hospital with an on-site co-located regional Gynaecological Oncology Centre, whilst also maintaining skills and involvement in Obstetrics.

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead and forms part of the Trust's Surgical Business Unit. The CQC has rated the department as 'good', and a recent patient survey rated our unit 5th in England for maternity services.

Interviews will be held on Friday 27th September 2024.

Main duties of the job

This post would appeal to individuals with an enthusiasm for benign gynaecology and being involved in gynaecological cancer care in a local Gynaecology Cancer Unit but who also wish to maintain their skills and involvement in providing Obstetric care. In addition to the Certificate of Completion of Training, ATSMs in Benign Abdominal Surgery - Open and Laparoscopic (BASOL) or Oncology (or equivalent) would provide a suitable training background for the Gynaecological component of the job. Due to Obstetric commitments, the applicant will also require training in Obstetrics, such as the Advanced Labour Ward Practice or Labour Ward Lead (or equivalent) ATSM. Labour ward contribution is in the form of rotational hot weeks, and there are on call duties rotationally for weekends and midweek overnight, with compensatory rest periods afterwards. Elective Caesarean Section lists would form part of the job plan. Further information on this exciting post can be found in the job description.
