Job summary

There are two posts and the successful appointees are expected to provide anaesthetic cover for appropriate patients, without direct consultant supervision, for elective and emergency surgery. It is the expectation that the successful candidate's on-call sessions will be delivered on the Anaesthetic/Obstetric resident on-call rota.

Main duties of the job

Daytime sessions will be mainly in Theatres/Maternity with the option of some sessions and on-calls in Critical Care, if service dictates.The appointee will be clinically responsible to the consultants for all aspects of anaesthetic service delivery.

The appointees will be required to cover the labour ward without direct supervision and will be required to transfer patients (including from ITU) to other hospitals. They will work flexibly with their Consultant colleagues and Trainees within the wide remit of the Department's activity. Indicative job plans are attached (Job Plan 1 and Job Plan 2) but a formal job plan will be agreed on appointment.

The appointees will play a significant role in the teaching programmes for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff as well as in clinical governance activities. These are permanent posts.
