Job summary
We are looking for a Senior Clinical Fellow working at ST4+ to support in assessment of pre-school (under 5 years) children with social communication difficulties. The post is for a one-year fixed term period.
Gateshead Community Paediatric team are integrated with the broader Paediatric Department working in Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post is focused on conducting assessments of children with social communication difficulties in conjunction with a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and with information from a broader multi-agency team. The successful post-holder will also support the ongoing service improvement and engage in evaluation of the transformation of ASD assessments in the Trust. The successful post-holder will also have the opportunity to have an alternate weekly community paediatric or general paediatric clinic.
Within the community Paediatric team three consultants assess pre-school children with possible Autism. They are supported by a Highly Specialist SALT and dedicated administrative support to the clinic. We are also currently recruiting for two care co-ordinators who will further support the delivery of these assessments through a combination of administrative work across professional groups and face to face engagement with children in the clinics.

These clinics will run jointly with a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and the patients will have been screened by a consultant paediatrician as suitable for this assessment pathway. The post holder will have access to wider Multi-agency information about the child to support he clinic appointment. The post holder, together with SALT, will be able to determine the appropriateness of an ASD diagnosis for the children seen, communicate the outcome verbally and in writing to the parents/carers and the wider MDT and be able to determine any appropriate next steps for the childscommunity paediatric follow-up.
